Levees Breech: Cities Underwater

Well, I have waited to see if anyone would respond to the flooding in the Midwest, to no avail. Hmm, let me see, why isn't there an 'outcry' of how 'badly' the government is handling this situation? I have watched for a couple of weeks now as several levees have broken, cities that have been completely flooded, and people attempting to re-build the levees with sandbags even though their town is underwater. But, I haven't heard anything like I did when the levees breeched in New Orleans. Yes, the towns along the Mississippi River have flooded on and off for years, even centuries (just as New Orleans has, since 'it is' below sea level). Is the difference because the government of these states know how to handle an emergency situation? Is it because they help each other during a crisis? Because, you know, I haven't heard of even one 'telethon' to raise billions of dollars to help these cities that have been flooded or wiped out by tornadoes, the way that they had the 'fund-raisers' after Katrina. Nor have I heard of any agencies such as the Red Cross or Salvation Army trying to get supplies to them. And, I definitely haven't seen any buses going to move them out of these areas. So, you tell me; what is the difference???

Hello everyone, yes I'm still here on the blogs, and I respond when I can, and I get on the "chat stream" when I am able. I am taking "college courses" online, and you might not think that is so bad, but it is very time consuming! I just wanted to let you all know that I haven't gone anywhere, and I still monitor the blogs and chat!!! Some of you have turned the "chat stream" into a joke, as I wanted to let you know!!! While you can say what you want to anywhere, backstabbing isn't allowed by any moral individual!!! On the blogs, I just wanted to say that I have seen "friendships" develop that I would have never thought would happen (and you each know who you are)!!! I am so happy to see this, and I really hope that I can meet each of you at our next "get together"! I just wanted to keep you informed that "little sister" is watching you, LOL!!! I love all my blogger friends that are "true to their word". Remember that, "true to your word", okay???
DMV-Genius Idea? Yeah, Right!

Well, the N.C. DMV has now come up with this "genius idea" to mail you your driver's license when you go to get it renewed. Now this law will not take effect until July 1, 2008, but nevertheless, when it goes into effect it "may" take up to 20 days to receive your driver's license with your photo I.D. from Raleigh in the mail. My first reaction to this was, "Well now we will have people stealing mail from mailboxes trying to retrieve this VERY IMPORTANT piece of identification." Talk about identity theft!!! Then, I began to think of how many people they will need to hire in Raleigh to be able to "pull this off". Right now, the DMV employs enough people at their local driver's license offices to give you your license while you are there. Now, the state will have to take taxpayer money to pay for more employees to receive the documents from DMVs all over the state! Okay, so IF the information doesn't get lost on its way to Raleigh, what about it getting lost in the mail? Also, we have been told that the license will not be sent to a post office box (which to me would be the safest way of receiving it). Hmmm??? What is this going to do? It has been said that it will "aide the DMV in verifying residence". Then what is all the information that we take to the DMV to verify our residence when we get our driver's license for??? I see this as just another taxpayer's expense for the "ignorance or lack of something to do" of the people in our state government. I do not have to renew my license for quite a few years, but what is your feelings about this new "inconvienience"???
Lowes Motor Speedway to Move???

Hey everyone! I know, you are all wondering why this isn't under the "Sports Blogs". Well, my take on the news that we are getting, that the owner of Lowes Motor Speedway is going to move the speedway out of Concord if a drag strip is built there, is that it sounds like a child who is mad at a playmate. "I'm going to take all my toys and leave if you don't play what I want to!" Am I wrong??? What is wrong with the drag strip being built, so that the people of Concord can have a better economy? The Lowes Motor Speedway will always continue to attract its visitors on every occasion that they have there. Why does the owner think that it should be the only source of revenue that the town has? I would love to hear others views about this little scenario! Now, play nice, and share, LOL!!! There is enough to go around for everyone!
Constitution Day September 17th

We have had a lot of blogs about the government and religion, and how people today say that the country was not founded on the basis of religion. Today is "Constitution Day" and if you don't have enough time to research the makings of the constitution, I hope that you will at least read this exerpt of what the Bill of Rights was written and based on:
The Bill of Rights
Can you sue the United States Government?
The First Amendment disallows the establishment of an official religion. The amendment also prohibits the Congress from passing laws that limit citizens’ right to freely exercise their religious beliefs or prohibit freedom of speech, the press, or peaceful assembly. In addition, the First Amendment gives citizens the right to sue the government.
Now, if this is the way that the first amendment was written, to prohibit Congress from passing laws that limit a person's right to express their religious beliefs, then why do we have so many issues today concerning prayer, moments of silence, "In God We Trust" on different things, and the multitude of other things that people wish to express in public? This is only a small part of the beginning of the Constitution. I hope that each of you will take the time to read the ENTIRE Constitution today, since it is "Constitution Day".
Michael Vick's "Window Is Closing"

Michael Vick's "Window of opportunity is closing" according to the news reports last night prior to the football game. The two other co-defendants in his case have reached plea bargains, which brings the total to three of Vick's "friends" who have decided to testify against him in order to reduce their own sentences. It was said that if Vick does not make a plea bargain this week, more charges will be brought against him next week, which will increase the number of years that he could be sentenced to. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has said that if he sees anything in the Federal indictment that shows that Vick has lied to him in any way, this would constitute a breech in the "Personal Conduct Policy" for the NFL, and that he would base how long Vick's suspension would be on that information. At this point, it is unlikely Vick will return to the Falcon's this year. One of the team members stated that they did not want Vick to return, that they wanted to concentrate on "playing football" this year.
How many people had already said that the other defendants would "roll" on Vick months ago?
Good Job, Eric White!!!

I have looked most of the day (on and off) awaiting to see if someone would give Eric (and his cameraman) a "pat on the back". Well, I haven't seen one, so here goes, "Eric, GREAT JOB on the story about why the lawns were so green at Greensboro's public buildings!!! You caught them 'wet handed', LOL, and it was a great service to the community, that was responding to the request of saving water!!! If you hadn't caught that, then there would be no telling how much water would have been wasted on the grass of the city's municipal lawns! Thank you for bring this to their attention and ours. As I said before, GREAT JOB!!!"
The parents of the girl (16 yrs. old) who consented to marry her high school teacher (40 yrs. old) are now suing the Guilford Co. School System and the Brunswick Co. School System. Hmmmm? The parents had to SIGN for their daughter to get married, thereby giving their CONSENT. Was this the plan all along? Did they allow their daughter to marry her teacher in "anticipation of suing all involved"? This is another mystery that I find remarkable. If they didn't want their daughter to marry a 40 yr. old man, they didn't have to sign the consent form. This will be interesting to see how this plays out! What are your ideas on this subject? I know we discussed about the age difference and the fact that he was her teacher, but this takes on a whole new meaning. What do you think about the parents suing the school systems AFTER they signed the consent for her to marry her teacher?
What happened to the bill in the N.C. legislature that was supposed to make murdering a pregnant woman a crime of killing "two people" (being the woman and the child)? It is listed to have been written April 20,2005, yet it still hasn't passed as a law yet? It stated that it became effective Dec. 1, 2005, yet I heard this morning on the news that it was just now coming up for vote today. Why has this taken two years to pass? (For anyone interested, it is listed as GS 14-17.) I am confused, because I thought that it went into effect in Dec. 2005, as it said. I was not aware that it had not even passed through the N.C. Congress. Can someone enlighten me? Thank you!
Okay, I'm taking on a subject that HSM brought up that I too have had to deal with in my lifetime. We, as parents, are "responsible" for our children and their actions until they reach the age of 18. I came across this dilemma in a hospital, when my then 17 year old daughter was being "cooerced" into signing a "consent form", in which she looked to me for "guidance". She was told that "I had nothing to do with it", and I reminded them that she was under 18, and was told that it didn't matter. HSM brought up a situation with a college in which she encountered the same problem. Okay, then, NC, if we as parents are responsible for our children until they are 18 years old, why is it "different" in some situations, depending on the outcome that is wanted? When does the "responsibility of the parent" change from being responsible until 18, and when will someone tell us the situation has changed, except when we are "smacked in the face" with it by someone else?
This is really a nice story, and I'm sure one that the sisters will always cherish. But there are a lot of stories like this, or similar, to this that I would like to hear people share. For myself, 2 of my daughters were born on the same day, 2 yrs. apart. (You'd be surprised how many people ask, are they "twins", when I state their birthdates,LOL!) These same 2 sisters then had a baby, one on 10/11/06 and the other on 11/10/06. I told them, they were just trying to make me insane, LOL. Then one had her son on the date that his grandfather (her father) died! Three of my children were born in February, and we have 3 birthdates on the 13th of a month! Please respond if you have any stories as "amazing" as I feel these are!!!

This site has really taken off!!!! Oh, what a web you have weaved, Mr. Buckley LOL. This has been very interesting, entertaining, and educational, or at least I hope for some. The number of hits has skyrocketed! We have some very educated citizens that really should think about running for public office, because I believe they could get something accomplished for the good of our community , state, or even the country! Seriously!!! Thank you for such a good broadcast that has really got people reacting. Now, if people would just VOTE!!! maybe changes would start to happen. Thanks again on such a good report on such a controversial topic.
Thanks to media and VT Admin.

I would like to thank each news network that covered the VT tragedy so well, but I mostly thank them for deciding to limit, if not eliminate the pictures that Cho sent to NBC. I agree that the students do not need to see this image over and over, after all they have been through. I also wish to give my deepest respect to the administrators at VT for allowing the students to finish the semester in the manner they wish, and for the decision for giving Degrees posthumously to the deceased students. This is such a loving thought for their grieving families, I'm glad they thought of this. God Bless America!!!!! There is STILL alot of goodness here.
