Let me start off by saying that I am in no way meaning to hurt feelings with this blog, or to cause trouble. I want to know how you guys feel about this subject.

Last night, I decided to watch American Idol. Little did I know, the show would be broadcasting all different types of nationalities and cultures. It seemed to me that the show would let us see foreigners who could sing extreamly well, and then show one American who made the USA look dumb. This fact really frustrated me. Am I the only one in this country who cares about patriotism? The show is called AMERICAN Idol. Not ''Pick-my-nationality." I will be the first one to say that the foreign people who were sent through to the Hollywood round, could sing better than most of the people on there...but I do not think that they should be the next AMERICAN Idol. To me, a American Idol is someone who shows true patriotism and is a American through and through. Not someone who came to live here two years ago. I feel that if someone is going to be an American Idol, they themselves should be American. Simon started the show in England for people from that area, and that show was meant for people of that region. Now we have our show for people from our region. How do you guys feel about this? Do you think people from other nationalities should be able to be the next American Idol?

When you want "only Americans" are you speaking of the only "true Americans" which are native Americans? Aren't you aware that America is a nation of immigrants? How do you know where these folks are from, or are you saying that only english speaking, caucasian, or black people should be elegible?

If they are American citizens "Legal", then they are Americans and should have the opportunity to become the next American Idol.

Roxy,

Your blogs will go beyond a few comments, only if you react and/or respond to those making comments. You've presented an extension of your beliefs and are asking people their opinion. This blog has ramifications of you being a racist as you seek to fill American Idol with only your view of who is actually American. Your pick-a-nationality comment shows a closed mind on anyone who isn't you. When you are working with kids, do you mentally classify them according to whether or not they are native born Americans and only give them your best attention?

I stated that I do not want to cause a big up-roar with anyone. I was simply stating my opinion. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. I will be the first to say that I respect every individual that I come in contact with (until they give me a reason not to). I think what I was trying to say is that the show should not be titled ''American'' if they are going to let other nationalities in. And that is perfectly fine if they let other nationalities through. What I was questioning is why they title the show ''American''. I do not understand that.

Uh, it's called "AMERICAN Idol" because it takes place here...and what's the deal with taking a stupid television show and elevating it to the level of nationalism? Remember, "Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel."

Mayberryman,

She's only 21 and probably lives at home. This may be what's important to her. It may be what's important to her generation. She has probably not lived through any administration that has had any impact on her life. She also has the ability to vote. She was only fifteen when GWB started the war in Iraq. Give her a break......or you can hold her accountable for every mistake you've made, your decision!

You are young so if this really concerns you get in touch with the show and give your opinion. I think you could have made your point without sounding somewhat racist. Think it out next time.
