Last night, World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) had their 2008 Hall of Fame Inductions.  The inductees were: The Briscoe Brothers, Mae Young, Rocky Johnson, the late "High Chief" Peter Miavia, the late Eddie Graham, the late Gordon Solie, and my all time favorite wrestler, "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair.

The final hour of the ceremonies were shown on the USA Network, so I got to see "The Rock" Dwayne Johnson induct his father (Rocky Johnson) and his grandfather (Peter Miavia) into the HOF. To me, the highlight came at the last induction, when another one of my favorites, Triple H inducted "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair. As I was watching Ric give his acceptance speech, I couldn't help but to think about all the times I saw him at the Greensboro Coliseum when wrestling was divided up in regional territories. They would wrestle in Greensboro about every 2-3 weeks. Ahh, those were the good ol' days of wrestling.

As I finish up this blog, I have only one thing left to say:

                                      WOOOOOOO!!!!!!

Pro wrestling during the 80s and 90s was one of my favorite things to watch on tv. I loved seeing the different regions, northeast, southeast, southwest and Mid America. So many different good guys and bad. They all changed from story line to story line but it was great fun. Ric Flair was one of that era and one of the best. I still watch today but it does not have the same appeal. Those were the days!

Congratulations to Ric Flair, from a life-long "Nature Boy" fan. IMHO, he's the most exciting pro wrestler to ever step into the square circle. In much the same way that "King" Richard Petty elevated NASCAR, Flair was an integral part in the growth of professional wrestling from fractured regional associations to the mega-buck, nationally-exposed, pay-per-view entertainment it is today.

He always had the best looking women, the longest cars, the flashiest jewelry, the sharpest clothes, the finest champange, and the biggest houses. Flair talked the talk, and walked the walk.

"If you want to BE the man, you got to BEAT the man."
