Earlier today, I went to Yahoo.com to check my e-mails. Just for the fun of it, I typed my name in the search bar on Yahoo's home page and hit the search button. After a second or two,  a whole list came up with people throughout the United States that have my name. What came next was really disturbing. As I scanned the list, I saw Thomasville, NC (which is the area where I live!) To make matters worse, at the end of the line, it stated my parents name and their ages. The only mistake that was on the whole line was my age. It said that I was 40 years old. Still got a few more years before I turn 40!!!!

When I saw all of this, I clicked on my name and it took me to the next page. When that one came up, it stated that it had 4 addresses for Lexington and 2 addresses for Thomasville. Yes, I lived in Lexington before moving to Thomasville. The page said for $39.95, I could get court records like copies of both of my marriage licenses, copies of my divorce, and basically anything else pertaining to me!!!

So for $39.95, you can basically steal anyone's identity!!! This is just another way for identity theft to happen!!! What do ya'll think???

All of this easy access stuff is suppose to be for our convenience, but we are going to end up being burned for it in the end. I think those important personal documents or anything that has to do with license numbers and social security numbers should be things we need to take care of face to face. It is alot more inconvenient in a world where we want everything and we want it now, but it is much safer that way.

Northdavidsondad,

I think these are things that are being presented by personal right's advocates but I can't be sure.

Here's my opnion at what should happen with this. You probably know about internet domains but I'll just kind of hit on it. There are different parts of the internet where specific traffic is sent and generated. These are the domains like .net (public net for any use), .com (for businesses, .gov (government agencies and units), .org (organizations), .mil (military). All of these so called "investigative" companies have at one point or another received some of their information from hackers. ALL of them. I firmly believe that to be a fact. Any type of service like this needs to be put under the .gov domain so that only government employees (policemen, etc) have access to it.

NDD
It is bad for this info to be on the internet.
But all that info is public record,
I could go to or write to the courthouse and get a copy
of any of those documents on any person
for a couple of dollars. Also, on alot of
county government websites, this info is
free. I can go to the Mecklenburg county
website and look up any of this info. Guilford
county recently took them offline, due to
identity theft.

This is true triadgirl, that it is public record and easy to get anyone's personal information whether online, or if they go to a government building! That is why "identity theft" is so rampant today; anyone can get your personal information, from your address, date of birth, to your SSN! It is pathetic that these people don't get a life of their own and a job, and stop stealing other people's lives and sometimes selling them!!!
