As I came on to this website this morning, the first news headline that I saw said something about a 16 year old threatend to shoot some classmates at NORTH DAVIDSON high school and NORTH DAVIDSON middle school.

As ya'll know, my oldest daughter is a student at North Davidson Senior High, hence my screenname. It seems like here lately, everytime you turn on the news, there are reports of school shootings or threats of school shootings. I am glad that the assistant principal received the information apparently from some students to where he could pass it on to the SRO (school resource officer) before this thug could go through with it.

It is a shame that our kids can't go to school and not have to worry if it will happen at their schools, because yes, IT CAN HAPPEN AT ANY SCHOOL. It has happened at Columbine, Virginia Tech, and about a week and a half ago in Illinios just to name a few.

In the school shootings the thugs go in and shoot innocent people before turning the gun on themselves. Why waste bullets on innocent people before killing themselves? A lot of times, it is blamed on video games that have shootings in them. I guess these thugs play these video games and think it is ok to shoot the characters on the games, so it will be ok to go to school and shoot innocent classmates.

These are my questions: 1) When will it stop, and 2) What is it going to take to stop this?  ANY SUGGESTIONS? ALL RESPONSES WELCOME!!!!

PS... WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF THIS HAPPENED AT YOUR CHILD'S SCHOOL?

This is very scary and needs to be stopped. I remember about a month ago when a student was acting strangely at DCCC and a teacher reported him. They found a gun in his car. My daughter goes there a couple of days a week and when I heard that, it really made me sick. Our kids should be able to go to school without fear. We should be able to go to the mall and pump gas without fear, but people have been killed doing that. The Bible says in the end times things will get worse and they definitely are. That doesn't mean we shouldn't try to stop it though. I came out of the Cracker Barrel last night after a Mom's Night Out with some friends. A police officer was parked behind my van looking in my window's with a flash light. He told me there had been alot of break-ins around there and he was just checking my car. He waited until I made sure it was alright and until I got in my van before he left. I appreciated that, but it really does scare you. Makes me want to stay in my house and lock the doors. That would only be admitting defeat though, so we can't do that. Toughter laws don't seem to be helping, but something needs to be done. Not in every case, but I think alot of it starts in the home and if things don't change there it won't get any better.

Nothing to do with the blog, but I saw in another blog where you said you had been sick. Hope you're feeling better!

Schools are "Defense Free Zones" as are malls and just about anywhere you see these maniacs go berserk.

The police are very good at taking photos of dead bodies and writing up reports on stolen items. That is, the police aren't assigned to each of us. Personal defense is a personal matter.

With that said, the answer to the question of how to stop some nut from shooting innocent people is... there is no answer.

We cannot plan for every act of the insane.

Let's make sure we keep God, the Bible and prayer out of government schools. Do you suppose Him being expelled has any causal correlation with the problems mentioned above?

We replaced God with Darwin; the Bible with evolution's lies; parents turned over the responsibility to train our children to Uncle Sam; and exchanged God's House for their pursuit of worldly pleasure; godliness in the area of sexual activity, gave way to abortion (to try to equalize the error), and condoms (to enable kids to experiement without gettig caught), and finally, they had to replace preachers with policemen.

Keep doing what we're doing, and we'll keep getting the same results (that's a restatement of someone's famous quote).

There is a thing called the "sin nature," in us humans. Only the power of the gospel has the answer for that problem. All of societies efforts to deal with it are but efforts to cure tainted "fruit." Only Christ can get to the "root" of the problem.

He is the only answer.

homeschoolmom,

I am feeling better now. There were 2 or 3 days that I had the classic symptoms of the flu.

You brought up a good point in your response. You mentioned about shootings in the malls and at the gas pumps. If you remember, Four Seasons Mall has had several shootings within the past year or two. Also, thanks to the "DC Snipers" from a few years ago, we know that we can get shot and killed while pumping gas.

ntseer,

I feel you are right. Taking God, the Bible, and prayer out of the schools has caused all these problems.

I am glad that the schools have the police officers there, but at the same time, it is sad that it has come down to where every school has to have a officer there.

While I think that religion is a very important aspect of this situation has anyone considered that the kids doing this are from the "time out" and "every kid has to feel important and special" era. These kids have no respect for ANYTHING! These kids are not afraid to get into trouble, if anything it's "cool" to be in trouble with the law. We as parents have got toteach our kids self respect and then teach them to respect each other. Quit giving time out and take away the phones, video games, cars and priviliges until they learn respect and manners.

And I think it is going to get worse with the upcoming generation. Control over your kids should be taken at a young age. They are given anything they want by us, the parents. They don't even know who Jesus is because we have not taught them. I think parental control and the knowledge of God in combination is the only way

I still think that a trip out behind the woodshed is sometimes in order. When I was young, I feared my Dad, yet I still loved him. If I did wrong I got a whipping. I had chores to do and they had better been done when my daddy got home from work. He wouldn't let us lay around all summer and watch tv, he would take the cord off and keep it with him at work so we couldn't. We never heard of ADD but we knew the word BELT. We were made to go to Church. We were not allowed to leave the house when our parents were not at home. But now they have too many choices. You have to break that negative will while they are very young. It's like breaking in a youg colt. Of coarse there was no such thing as a single parent unless one spouse passed away. And there was no such thing as movin in together. It was such a treat to get an RC cola once in a whle. Parents don't care anymore, and we are the cause of the way kids are. It's not only the poor that are causing problems, it is also the rich, and middle class. Kids have no fear of authority but resent it. The parents must take back his authority and reclaim it before it gets more out of hand. Whether you are a single parent or not you must stay in control.
These kids know right from wrong, they just want attentio

I agree 100% with you. Each generation is getting worse than the one that preceeded them. My parents divorced when I was young, and I stayed with my mom during the week, and I would go to my dad's one weekend and to my grandparents the next weekend. I respected each one's set of rules. I knew what the punishment would be if I broke any rules. If I did something wrong at my dad's or my grandparents, I would get a whipping. I honestly don't recall getting a whipping at my dad's. I can recall getting them at my grandparents. Whippings from my mom never worked, so she would put me in a black chair that we had and tell me not to get up for say 30 minutes or so. I would be good for the first 25 minutes, then I would start pitching a fit. So she would add another 30 minutes on to my time in the chair. When I was in the chair, I could not have the tv, radio, any phone calls, any friends over, etc. To me that was worse than getting a whipping.

If the kids not had any idea of what we went through, they probably could not exhist. I scrapped lunch trays in the lunchroom to get a free meal which then was 25 cents. We hardly ever got 10 cents for ice cream. I would sit and watch those other kids eat that Ice cream and my mouth just watered. Once in a while someone would share with me, boy was that a treat. We learned to respect older people. We had to say yes mam and yes sir to any older people. It didn't take a lot to get a whipping.
Even though we thought we had it rough. now I sit back and can see where my parents were coming from. And you know, it was really that bad and sometimes I really miss those days with my family. Sittin' out under a shade tree on Sat. afternoons in a chair just talking. Or turning an old ice cream freezor.

You can even see it at Church in some of the kids. But nowdays you can't say anything because you will get jumped by the parents.
