North Carolina Now Center Stage?

SO I am left to wonder, where would we be if it were not for this tight knock down drag out going on in the Democratic Party ?

I do not think for a moment that any of the so called Presidential wanna bes gives a nickel for the sufferings of the people of North Carolina. I do not think a parade of well paid political mouthpieces would change my mind.

It was the Clinton machine that loves to brag about how wonderful things were during their eight year reign. All I remember were all our industries, (textiles, furniture), going wholesale to China. Clinton's Tobacco goons forcing newer taxes anything connected to the industry, citing how bad it is and how it kills so many people. I seem to remember drinking and driving being much worse, but no one seems to want to discuss that.

Funny I remember our good governor here in North Carolina, raising our gasoline taxes for "road construction", making ours the highest gasoline tax in the nation. Here we are again sixteen years later, and no the governor wants to enact new taxes to pay for road construction. Go ahead, we all have so much money burning our pockets.

Now to be fair more recent history has seen more and more of our jobs go overseas...(we must compete in the global economy)...if you believe that I have some beach front property I want to sell you in Los Vegas Nevada. The sad fact is my personal income is $16,000/year less than 1983, and my dollars buy nothing, above that for the basics, and just barely at that.

I seem to remember during Bush's first term, nearing re election time, when gasoline prices spikes, the President spoke to the Saudis, and to the Oil Companies, and asked them to hold the line on gas prices. Now that he is on the way out, is seems that our dollars are all fair game. The White House is as silent as a tomb.

Right now we are hearing all about Obama's pastor, and how Bubba is stumping around the state, tell folk how his wife is the best thing to ever come down the pipe. What we are NOT hearing is what any of the wanna bes are going to do to improve the lives of North Carolinians. Nothing about how they are going to restore the lives of a proud hard working group of Americans. Nothing about stopping the flow of illegals across the border... nothing about taking care of all our wounded troops, and their families...

What is it with these people, do they think we just fell off the produce truck?

From a earlier Presidential Race of the 1980s, I have to ask:

"Where's The Beef " !

I think I am going to try to reform the Whig Party. I am neither a Republican, nor a Democrat,No I am a Whig!

I am a WHIG!
Now if only I could Get enough party members to get someone to run for President, and Congress.

As a Whig, the first thing I will do, is put the government out of work, except for the Military.

Armed Forces will be well paid, and cared for, have the best of everything. The next thing, no one in government gets money...there will be only enough taxes collected to pay for the defense of the nation, and for payment on the National Debt.

If you run for office, you will be expected to pay your own way. It is an honor to serve your country.
All Americans pay taxes, at a flat rate...and only deductions will be for widows, and solders, and their dependents, and those in service to the country, and those who are destitute, or deformed, and can not work.

I have concluded that we Need to resurrect Andrew Jackson to run as President again. He murdered the rich, and powerful in Washington when he was there before...and that is exactly what we need now.I am a Whig .

Andrew Jackson was the first "Democrat", and ran on a policy to destroy the "Second US Bank",he said that it was set up so that the rich could get richer, on the backs of working Americans...He was opposed to the beginning of "Industrialization",because it was putting craftsmen, like cobblers out of work.

No need for a cobbler, when you could employ a child for nearly nothing, and teach them to make only one part of the several steps that it takes to make a shoe... (Sounds like today does it not?) Except that today, this is the practice in the "Undeveloped world", our goods are being made by slave labor else where, and brought here to be sold at high prices... The method is the same, and we the people still lose.
To Quote a Veteran, a friend, and in my opinion, a Great American:
"The only most favored trading nation should be ourselves...as now we cannot even trade, state to state.  "
In the America of the Whigs; big business, must produce their goods here, if they want to sell here.
The  companies that export their goods here will pay will pay 200% in Tarriffs. if one American job was lost.
Exemptions will be made to those foreign companies that come set up shop here, and employ the greatest workforce that the world has ever known.

If you are from another country, and want to come here, you have the right to do so, however you must obey the same laws as Americans must obey. Failure to do so, results ,in punishment in prison or worse.

It was the Whigs that led our 13 colonies to fight for freedom from repression, it was the Whigs that gave to the nation so bravely, it was the Whigs that forged the framework of freedom, and it was the Whigs that demanded that government get off the backs of the people. They said that it was the people that called the shots, and that it was the role of the government to jump to the will of the people.

Yes in the time of the Whigs, it was the will of the people that dictated what direction the Nation would go. We have strayed so far away from that that today we stand to lose the free nation that the great Americans from out past fought and died for. We need to put our government back into our hands, and if it happens it will be with our votes.

Forget the two party system that we have now, both sides are controlled by the power brokers of the world's Corporate and Special Interests.

Politicians do not give a damn about us...the only thing that we have that they can not get any other place is our vote! That one is all sewed up if both Parties are bought and sold, so we need another one to represent "We the People"! I AM A WHIG!

SO VOTE WHIG, or Vote Libertarian...which is pretty much the same. The Government off the backs of the people, and out of our pockets...It is that Vote that makes the difference.

Greensboro is celebrating a birthday! Happy Birthday Greensboro!

That said; this might be a great time for all of us to remember our past. Who are we, and where did we come from.

I made a point of discovering something about the county history of Randolph County, when I first moved there in the early 1970s. It took years of study, and digging to get a good picture of just who the people were that settled this region.

Who they were, they were GREAT AMERICANS!

The region was settled by and large by Scottish, and Irish, and English people from Europe. They were all to be counted for in the War of Independence at the Battle of Guilford Courthouse, and even before, as well as after.

The Battle at Guilford Courthouse was said to be the turning point of the war. The actual battle only lasted 90 minutes, but what most do not know is that war was waged here for many more months.

The region was made up of "Whigs" who were you American citizens opposed to Rule by the King. We also had many Quakers who were opposed to war, and they were neutral in the war. The rest were "loyalists, or Tories", who wanted to remain loyal to England. Whigs, and Tories, fought for months, before, and after the Battle of Guilford Courthouse.

The Whigs who belonged to the North Carolina Militia were among others, General Gray, Col. Tom Dougan, Capt William Bell, Col Balfour, and others like the Clarke Brothers. William Millikan, was a Quaker, however since he was Randolph County's first tax collector, and local politician was deemed an enemy to the King, and as such marked for death.

The Whigs of the Revolution lived in North Central Randolph County, and the local headquarters for the Militia was at Bell's Mill on Deep River. (The remains of which is now under water;remember this when you take a drink from the water of Lake Randleman).

North Wall of Foundation of Bell's Mill

The next time you travel down Hwy 220 south into Randolph County, and cross the Lake look to the right, and you will be looking at a lot of water that covers the land where Bell's Mill, and the place where Cornwallis, and his British Army encamped for three days. It was also the same place that headquartered the NC Militia. The mill was a storehouse for the American Army.

If you have heard the Name Martha Bell, and know a little of the story about how she confronted, and tricked Cornwallis into not burning the mill, then you must know that she was no ordinary woman.

She was in addition to being the wife of Capt Bell, the midwife to the settlers of the region. She was known to have gone on horseback at all hours of the day and night, wearing her husbands Militia coat, armed with two pistols, and a knife, riding to farmsteads to assist in the business of baby delivery. Her story stands out as a fine example of strong women, and great American values. I urge you to learn about her.

The site of the Bell Plantation house. The rock outcropping below the place where the plantation house stood, was where a mounted RedCoat was thrown by his horse, and died of a broken neck.

There was a fameous Tory by the name of David Fanning that moved into the area and set up camp at Cox's Mill near Ramseur, and Asheboro. David Fanning was the one and same as the fameous Tory that did the raid on what is now known as the "House in the Horseshoe." David Fanning conducted raids nightly in Randolph County, and burned the house and crops of William Millikan, and Shot and Killed Balfour, who is buried at the Asheboro Airport. He also burned the home of Thomas Dougan, who was just last year honored by the Guilford Battle Chapter of the DAR.

I thought that this little bit of history might encourage you to visit places like the "Randolph Room" at the Asheboro Public Library, or perhaps some of the museums located at the various "Friends" Churches in the area. Springfield Frinds has a small museum, as does Centre Friends Church. There is the Visitor Center at Guilford Battleground, and St. Paul's Church Museum in Randleman in Randolph County. Go to these places and learn your heritage today.

I am many things, and have done many things in my life. I was a musician in my early life, and later a manager of a machinery mfg. company. My politics, well lets just say that my leanings are toward that of the Whigs of the American revolution. I am thinking that if one's government does not serve one's interest, then you are to do your civic duty, and get get a new government. The folks in office work for "We the People", and not the other way around. My passions, I love the out of doors, fishing, and Photography. Come view my photos that are posted here.
