How Swede It Is

Whereas the devastation and human suffering is rampant in Myanmar and it is a sad situation, I have to ask:

Why is the US busting a gut to get aid to that place when they are refusing to let the planes land?

Is is just me, or would the billions in aid be better spent HERE on the people who are suffering AND who pay taxes to make the aid possible?

Am I out of range here?  Any thoughts?

I hear you talking. That's Uncle Sucker not Uncle Sam getting ready to give more away.I know those people are suffering and need help but I'll bet those death numbers are jacked up so they can get more aid when they finally let it in.A lot of those boxes will end up on the black market in another country.

They're called professional politicians. It's what they do for a living. They have no mother or father, they were cloned from a horse's patoot in a lab.

flatch, and everyone, that was my very first thought when I heard that the government of that country was refusing to allow the U.S. into the country!!! While they have all that 'aid' collected together, they need to spread it around the U.S. to the people who are starving here, do not have homes, and could just use the help! God knows that the states will not help their citizens, so at the very least the federal government could give that 'collection' to OUR PEOPLE WHO NEED IT!!!

No, politicians come and go (mostly go). It is the bureacrats that spend your money. They are the long-term, entrenched people who cannot be fired because they have been there so long. They have contact power and networking contacts to push the politicians in the direction they believe will frustrate the average tax payer who does not have any power to give money away on that same level.

Also, these AID organizations receive lots of taxpayer money to dispense to other countries and the salaries of the folks in charge would probably make Enron types blush. You can bet the salaries are in the six figure category and all they have to do is instruct their underlings to fill a sack/box and ship it to wherever.

The government of that country wants the AID supplies; however, does not want us Ugly, Dirty, Satanic Americans to deliver them. If the U.S. Government is dead set upon giving these supplies, then maybe we should go ahead and help this country further by landing a couple of squads of Marines to locate, close with and destroy that countries military and its leadership.

My opinion is the only one expressed here. It is not intended in any way to reflect the thoughts and ideas of Fox8 News or any of its affilliates. Thank you.

UN halts aid to Myanmar after junta seizes supplies
YANGON, Myanmar (AP) -- Myanmar's junta seized U.N. aid shipments headed for hungry and homeless survivors of last week's devastating cyclone, prompting the world body to suspend further help on Friday.
The U.N. said the aid included 38 tons of high-energy biscuits and arrived in Myanmar on Friday on two flights from Bangladesh and the United Arab Emirates.
"All of the food aid and equipment that we managed to get in has been confiscated," U.N. World Food Program spokesman Paul Risley said. "For the time being, we have no choice but to end further efforts to bring critical needed food aid into Myanmar at this time."

This is just as stupid as Bush’s desire to give Mexico the 1.4 Billion dollars for its military

Will we never learn?
We will ever wake up?

Ummm? What is next?

Fine, if they don't want it, we'll keep it.....none of those supplies are ever going to reach the intended, anyway.....

Guess it makes us look good in "World Opinion", but it also makes us look kinda stupid...

For some odd reason, I can't seem to recall what East Asia did for us after 2 of THEIR "brushfire" wars, after 9/11, after earthquakes and floods, economic depression, floods which all but wiped out the wheat harvest a few years back (guess they were busy stockpiling rice, in case there should ever be a shortage).....

I understand the idea, and I hate to eaect to Good intentions with cold counsel.....

The only reason we are concerned is the fact that whatever plagues, diptheria, malaria and poisoned crops end up over here, we will have to deal with on OUR mainland.....

Not to mention the un-innoculated illegal aliens, these "plagues" will really stomp our asses.....There's probably not more than a handful of practicing physicians under 50 or 60 years of age who have ever actually ben exposed to a genuine case of measles, smallpox, etc.....

Before you laugh, remember the American Indian, the Alaskan eskimos, 19th century Spain, and the Hawaiian Islands.....

I was born after waiving extradition in October 1959. My mother was a goalie coach for the pond hockey team at a juvenile detention center. My father was the first to combine Doritos with Clearasil, thus causing and curing acne at the same time. Think of me as the one who pushes the Bull***t button on the game show of life. My interests are Swedish maritime hymnals, Victorian iodine bottles and four-digit numbers.
