Global Warming; fact or fiction?

The Global Warning Conspiracy -- Douglas ChickI don’t know if global warming is true or not, but it sure looks like a whole lot of ice is melting, and I’m confused to why. Is it gas emissions causing the melt down, or just time for the earth to shed its skin? In other words, is God causing the ice to melt or man? I think if it is God melting all the ice then there is really nothing we can do about it, so I’m going to keep my SUV and have a second gas tank added. However, if man is the culprit, a whole lot of politicians and oil lobbyist better think about faking their death’s like Ken Lay of Enron. And all those companies and people moving to that wonderland paradise being built in the United Emirates better make way for more people, and make the walls on their artificial islands high, real high, higher than an Air Craft Carrier.

Still, many people believe that Global Warming is a lie made up by the Liberals because they want everyone to give up their guns and big cars so we can all be socialist. While others believe that George Bush is responsible for melting all the ice so he and his buddies can get to all the oil beneath the ice. Truth or not, do you believe the ice is melting?

It might be warming and the ice melting; however, if it happens, it happens. I believe that Al Gore and his buddies are somewhat dingy and the situation is not dire.

Either way, our Great-Grandkids are going to have a helluva mess to clean up - Some sad BLEEP.....

Yes, the ice is melting, DUH. We have the satellite images of how thin it has gotten and how much has melted away. Is it the Earth "shedding its skin"? Probably, but we have "sped up the process" by adding carbon dioxide into the atmosphere at a greater rate than would have occurred normally. Does anyone care? Evidently not, because they are not likely to be alive when Florida is underwater. But, as DW45 said, our great-grandkids are going to have a huge mess to live with. It comes from people not caring about anything more than what is going to happen today. Guns as part of the equation? I don't think so, more like the landfills full of decaying material that will take hundreds of thousands of years to decay, and are emitting the gases. Yes, car emission systems today are "better" than 20 years ago, but there are still those vehicles on the road. Companies are still polluting the air. Didn't you hear that Davie and Forsythe Counties are listed as some of the most polluted counties in the country? They said it will take 20 years to correct the problems. So, what do people today care, when they feel they won't be alive to deal with the effects???

Fact of the matter is that its is happening! Is it man or Nature? If I knew the answer to that I would also hold multiple winning lottery tickets. Again it is happening and no one can deny that.
I would be careful with the seeing is believing statement being at your door step. Some things have a way of coming to be.
I am not a stretched left side of left liberal, but as DW said it is going to be a mess for future generations.
I have no doubt??? our government will do the right thing and come to the right decisions for us????Hmmmm

I started driving in 1975 and there was very little traffic on the road and it was a joy to drive as I am a car nut I love cars. Then as I started to teach my children to drive I felt sad for them because of how many people were on the road and how they would deliberately try to cause wrecks by hitting their brakes and stopping hoping that someone would hit them so they would get a law suit. Is global warming real well common sense tells me there are way more people on this planet than ever before and burning fossil fuels is the life line of the human race so you can let your petty label war of liberals cloud your thinking if you want to but common sense dictates that we are affecting this planet in a not so positive way! IMHO

Global Warming? New Data Shows Ice Is Back

Are the world's ice caps melting because of climate change, or are the reports just a lot of scare mongering by the advocates of the global warming theory?

Scare mongering appears to be the case, according to reports from the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) that reveal that almost all the allegedly “lost” ice has come back. A NOAA report shows that ice levels which had shrunk from 5 million square miles in January 2007 to just 1.5 million square miles in October, are almost back to their original levels.

Moreover, a Feb. 18 report in the London Daily Express showed that there is nearly a third more ice in Antarctica than usual, challenging the global warming crusaders and buttressing arguments of skeptics who deny that the world is undergoing global warming.

The Daily express recalls the photograph of polar bears clinging on to a melting iceberg which has been widely hailed as proof of the need to fight climate change and has been used by former Vice President Al Gore during his "Inconvenient Truth" lectures about mankind’s alleged impact on the global climate.

Gore fails to mention that the photograph was taken in the month of August when melting is normal. Or that the polar bear population has soared in recent years.

As winter roars in across the Northern Hemisphere, Mother Nature seems to have joined the ranks of the skeptics.

As the Express notes, scientists are saying the northern Hemisphere has endured its coldest winter in decades, adding that snow cover across the are

area is at its greatest since 1966. The newspaper cites the one exception — Western Europe, which had, until the weekend when temperatures plunged to as low as -10 C in some places, been basking in unseasonably warm weather.

Around the world, vast areas have been buried under some of the heaviest snowfalls in decades. Central and southern China, the United States, and Canada were hit hard by snowstorms In China, snowfall was so heavy that over 100,000 houses collapsed under the weight of snow.

Jerusalem, Damascus, Amman, and northern Saudi Arabia report the heaviest falls in years and below-zero temperatures. In Afghanistan, snow and freezing weather killed 120 people. Even Baghdad had a snowstorm, the first in the memory of most residents.

AFP news reports icy temperatures have just swept through south China, stranding 180,000 people and leading to widespread power cuts just as the area was recovering from the worst weather in 50 years, the government said Monday. The latest cold snap has taken a severe toll in usually temperate Yunnan province, which has been struck by heavy snowfalls since Thursday, a government official from the provincial disaster relief office told AFP.

Twelve people have died there, state Xinhua news agency reported, and four remained missing as of Saturday.

An ongoing record-long spell of cold weather in Vietnam's northern region, which started on Jan. 14, has killed nearly 60,000 cattle, mainly bull and buffalo calves, local press reported Monday. By Feb. 17, the spell had killed a total of 59,962 cattle in the region, including

7,349 in the Ha Giang province, 6,400 in Lao Cai, and 5,571 in Bac Can province, said Hoang Kim Giao, director of the Animal Husbandry Department under the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, according to the Pioneer newspaper.

In Britain the temperatures plunged to -10 C in central England, according to the Express, which reports that experts say that February could end up as one of the coldest in Britain in the past 10 years with the freezing night-time conditions expected to stay around a frigid -8 C until at least the middle of the week. And the BBC reports that a bus company's efforts to cut global warming emissions have led to services being disrupted by cold weather.

Meanwhile Athens News reports that a raging snow storm that blanketed most of Greece over the weekend and continued into the early morning hours on Monday, plunging the country into sub-zero temperatures. The agency reported that public transport buses were at a standstill on Monday in the wider Athens area, while ships remained in ports, public services remained closed, and schools and courthouses in the more severely-stricken prefectures were also closed.

Scores of villages, mainly on the island of Crete, and in the prefectures of Evia, Argolida, Arcadia, Lakonia, Viotia, and the Cyclades islands were snowed in.

More than 100 villages were snowed-in on the island of Crete and temperatures in Athens dropped to -6 C before dawn, while the coldest temperatures were recorded in Kozani, Grevena, Kastoria and Florina, where they plunged to -12 C.

Hey, cook - I forgot the math (long ago), but the conversion tables say that -6C is approx 21.2 F.....and they're FREEZING to DEATH!?...buncha wussies - that's fine fishing weather if the wind is down...

Their FUEL OIL must be as high as ours.....

The conversion from Fahrenheit to Celsius is: C= 5/9(F - 32) (just happen to be in college math right now), LOL!!! And, DW45, you are right; some people are real "wusses" if they can't handle 21 degree weather! Sure, that is cold, but I am sure that it was the "low temperature" and it warmed right back up when the sun came up! I don't think those are very cold temperatures compared to what the "Ice Regions" are supposed to have constantly very low cold ( like 40 below zero). Any how, the fact remains that Greenland is "splitting in half" because of the ice there (glacier or whatever). Perhaps it was once actually "green lands" and will soon be again!

Greenland is SPLITTING IN HALF? - WTH is that all about? (we could probably use the resources...) -
