My daughter once asked me what the difference between and Liberal and a Conservative, I thought for a moment and replied:

A Liberal is a person that is for abortion and against the death penalty.

A Conservative is a person that is against abortion and for the death penalty.

So, is there something wrong with that?

No doubt about it. There is no denying the "cult of death" on the Liberal side of things.

An unborn baby as a fetus, has not done anything wrong in their life except perhaps waiting to be conceived as a bastard child. Lets face it, thats why most abortions occur.

On the other hand, most of the people on death row are there for maybe one hanous murder of which they show no remorse and also show a tendency to hurt themselves or others. Or, often it is a serial killer that simply needs to get to that next exit on the highway of life.

Apples and Oranges.

i think these descriptions contradict themselves!

Republican:
I do believe in murder, I don't believe in murder.

Democrat:
I don't believe in murder, I do believe in murder.

oh my!

The definitions were not of Democrat and Republican, it was conservative vs liberal. The descriptions do not contradict themselves. There is absolutely no comparison between killing an innocent baby and putting to death a serial killer. The serial killer knows in advance of his actions what might come of him, what has that baby ever done that he should be sentenced to death?

killing is killing that is what you folks don't understand no matter the circumstance dead is dead and if you prolifers would denouce the death penalty abortion would be over there would be no double standard and a law could be passed to end abortion but your thirst for blood is so strong babies are being killed too. Thou shall not kill!

Now thats a new one. Abortion is only around because of the death penalty. We're gonna need to involve Dr Laura to explain that one.

Just-Me-07, you are exactly right. JQPublix, I don't think Dr. Laura would know where to begin on that comment. The death penalty is a punishment for killing someone. The baby is being penalized for being conceived. I don't know how the two can even be compared.

you folks don't see a lot of things murder is murder under any circumstances. Only the name changes you don't need Dr Laura you need Jesus "Thou shall not Kill"!

Actually in the original text it states, "Thou shalt not commit murder."

Lawdy...after reading all of this...it makes me want to kill myself!
I am a liberal on one hand and a conservative on the other. To say that one is 100% liberal or conservative is to say that you vote straight ticket. Anyone who votes straight ticket is being lazy/closed minded, in my opinion. I would never vote for my party just because they are in my party...am I alone on this one? I would surely hope not..I vote for the best man/womanfor the job, regardless of their affiliation.
I think we have the right to bear arms. I believe in abortion for some situations ..but not as a form of birth control..I am for the death penalty...I have a lot of beliefs that may not set well with one party or the other, but I have reasons for what I believe and nobody has the right to judge me for those beliefs...not even you Jon_K. Why in the world would I want to feed and house a person who brutally murdered someone..for the rest of their life? I can think of better things to do with my tax dollars. If you are going to quote the bible, then maybe you should quote the parts about judging others...

This has nothing to do with voting, it has to do with labels and murder. I have a right to judge based on natural law. The dentist that brutally murdered his wife in Forsyth County did not get the death penalty only the poor get the death penalty! As for as why should you pay to feed and house a killer the same reason you pay for a war that has killed hundreds of thousands of Iraqis and nearly 4,000 Americans and never say word about it so stay silence on this matter too!

LadyRed very nice post. I think all of us would agree that there are mitigating circusmstances with either the case of abortion or the death penalty where we might be for/against.

As for me, I have a relative that married a woman who was raped before they met. She ended up having her child. Now they have two other kids together and even though they live in squaler they are still a very loving family and that first child means a lot to the entire extended family.

Think if he had been aborted.

To define Conservative vs. Liberal with such a simple minded point is really misleading even for a child. Try this one-- Conservative is wanting to take care of yourself without the government's help, make people pay for their crimes, and be free to worship God whenever and wherever you want. Liberal is wanting the government to provide every need of life, pandering to criminals, and worship any God other than Christian.

Av, that was excellent. I hope I can remember that one.

I've got one for you--defining the word "liberal" as it is used in the vernacular, means "open-minded." Don't quite understand how that is such a bad thing. But given the root of "conservative," i.e. to conserve or maintain, means "doing what you have done before and expecting different results," which is Twain's definition for insanity. Remember John Stuart Mill--"While it is true not all conservatives are stupid, every stupid person I've ever met was conservative."

Just-Me-07 read my blog

To be open minded is not a bad thing in and of itself. To be open minded only means that you are willing to listen to the other side but the problem with liberals in todays society is that they are not smart enough to listen to the other side without jumping on the bandwagon whether it is right or wrong. If you have any morals, and listen to the other side, then it only gives you a better argument for standing your ground. As for expecting different results that is not the case. A conservative knows what is moral and what is good for the country and doesn't want it changed. If it is good don't mess with it.

Thanks just me OPEN MINDED IS EXACTLY WHAT *IS WRONG WITH THIS COUNTRY!!!!!!!!! Do you think for one minute that our founding fathers would smile at the disease that liberlism has become???!!!! They would be turning over in thier graves!!!!!!!!!! JUST ME HAS IT RIGHT!! AS FAR AS STUPID GOES well stupid lets see....... Liberal----evil..Conservative....good. No comparason Just simple.. Take care of ourselves...worship GOD and punish criminals..enough said

Um, the founding fathers described themselves as liberal. And how is liberalism "evil?" I think that Just-Me has a point--as a self-described liberal, I pride myself on trying to listen to both sides of an issue, and encourage the students in my classes to do the same. And I think I have done that on this blog--I've never called anyone "stupid" or "evil" because of their beliefs--I have tried to present my point of view in as amiably as possible, and entertain differing points of view. But setting up absolutes (good v/s evil, right v/s wrong, black v/s white)shows a close minded approach to issues that very rarely fall into either/or dichotomies. And, whether it be liberal or conservative that sets up that kind of fallacy, THAT is what is wrong with the country--a lack of critical thought, and an "I must be right because this is what I believe and I refuse to hear anything to the contrary" attitude that both sides, but primarily conservatives, are guilty of.
