Those detained were from Brazil, El Salvador, Germany, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, and Peru, said Barbara Gonzalez, an ICE spokeswoman.
"We have kids without dads and pregnant mothers who got their husbands taken away," said Velez's son, Robert, youth pastor at the church. "It was like a horror story. They got handled like they were criminals." ( Imagine that )

Sheriff David Gee fires back Monday.
TAMPA - It's a war of words between U.S. Congresswoman Ginny Brown-Waite and Hillsborough Sheriff David Gee.
Brown-Waite questions why an illegal immigrant was released from jail.
Later, he was linked to a number of violent crimes, including a home invasion, a robbery, and several sexual assaults.
"I would call it naive to be releasing these violent individuals back into our community," Brown-Waite told FOX 13.
Rigoberto Moron Martinez was in jail for on misdemeanor charges. Sheriff Gee said they had no way of knowing he was involved in those other crimes.
But Gee said, Martinez told deputies he was born in Mexico. They knew there was a potential he was illegal. The Sheriff's Office notified ICE, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, but they didn't pick Martinez up and he bonded out.
"I'm always amazed when someone in Congress wakes up and realizes there's a problem that we've realized for the last 10 years," Gee said.
He said it's a bigger problem than Waite believes, but he doesn't blame ICE, he blames Congress.
"You've got to stop it at the border. You've got to at least stop the flow. This process is too cumbersome," he offered.
Gee said ICE rarely picks up illegals on misdemeanors. There's just not enough detention facilities to detain them.
Roughly, 7,000 illegals come through his jail every year, and Gee says when they are deported, they often come back.
"I can't tell you how many people we arrest in this county, and they are deported only to be arrested again in this county. They cross the border again."
Brown-Waite has now asked U.S. Attorney Robert O'Neill to investigate.
"To allow these people out there on the streets, if ICE isn't doing their job, then the U-S Attorney will find that out," she told FOX 13.
Ethanol is not the savior it's made out to be, however. Some scientific studies--including one by Nobel Prize-winning chemist Paul Crutzen--show that ethanol derived from corn is potentially more polluting than fossil fuels. In addition, the diversion of cropland and corn to ethanol has helped drive up the prices of staple foods like tortillas, meat, milk and eggs in the U.S. and around the world.

They're not alone. A recent University of New Orleans survey of residents found concern about levee safety was dropping off the list of top worries, replaced by crime, incompetent leadership and corruption.

What is the FairTax plan?
The FairTax plan is a comprehensive proposal that replaces all federal income and payroll based taxes with an integrated approach including a progressive national retail sales tax, a prebate to ensure no American pays federal taxes on spending up to the poverty level, dollar-for-dollar federal revenue neutrality, and, through companion legislation, the repeal of the 16th Amendment.
The FairTax Act (HR 25, S 1025) is nonpartisan legislation. It abolishes all federal personal and corporate income taxes, gift, estate, capital gains, alternative minimum, Social Security, Medicare, and self-employment taxes and replaces them with one simple, visible, federal retail sales tax administered primarily by existing state sales tax authorities.
The FairTax taxes us only on what we choose to spend on new goods or services, not on what we earn. The FairTax is a fair, efficient, transparent, and intelligent solution to the frustration and inequity of our current tax system.
The FairTax:
- Enables workers to keep their entire paychecks
- Enables retirees to keep their entire pensions
- Refunds in advance the tax on purchases of basic necessities
- Allows American products to compete fairly
- Brings transparency and accountability to tax policy
- Ensures Social Security and Medicare funding
- Closes all loopholes and brings fairness to taxation
- Abolishes the IRS
