McCain ad blames Obama for rising gas prices

Republican presidential candidate John McCain is launching a new television ad that blames Democratic rival Barack Obama for rising gasoline prices.

The ad, airing on national cable and in 11 battleground states, argues that the cost of fuel is rising because of opposition to oil drilling in the United States.

The announcer in the ad says, "Gas prices - $4, $5, no end in sight, because some in Washington are still saying no to drilling in America. No to independence from foreign oil. Who can you thank for rising prices at the pump?"

A photograph of Obama appears on the stage as a voiceover of a crowd chants: "Obama, Obama, Obama!" AND I THOUGHT IT WAS BUSH'S FAULT !!!!!

Everything is Bush's fault. No analysis needed. No policy review needed. No argument need be made... just blame Bush.

I will say, however, that the Right has been screaming at the GOP to drill for years. That said, there was NEVER any support on the left for nuclear power, more refineries or for any drilling.

It was the Left that made drilling impossible or near impossible. On all those supposed acres of land leased for drilling, the Left has allowed ONLY certain groups to sue the oil companies thus tying up the issue in the courts until the leases are up. YOU can't sue anybody in regard to federal lands, but certain SPECIAL INTERESTS have been granted that right.

Obama might as well start talking about gas prices since the "WAR IS EVIL" and "THE SURGE WILL FAIL" and "THE WAR IS LOST" cries have melted into “You see the activity taking place [in Iraq], the people in the shops, the traffic on the streets, clearly there’s been an enormous improvement,” [Obama].

DRILL me a river!

They're STILL making drilling impossible, despite the overwhelming will of the people AND congress.

Republicans with the support of enough Democrats have a majority ready to approve domestic drilling, but the Leftists in control refuse to allow a vote.

From The Hill: Boehner stressed that there are “clear majorities” in both chambers of Congress to support greater energy exploration, but blamed Democratic leadership for preventing votes on such issues.

“The only thing standing in the way of what we want are Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and Barack Obama..."

“Given the uncertainty in how the oil and gas drilling issue is currently playing out on the Senate floor, I have decided to postpone the July 24th appropriations markups at this time,” Byrd [D-KKK] said in a statement.

COWARDS. "Uncertainty" = We're gonna lose if we let them vote! We don't even have enough to sustain a filibuster!

What would the difference be?

Half the "lawmakers" own stock in oil, the rest in
distributing it, and the ones that aren't in steel or other Resources (food, farming) listen real hard to what the AMA, FDA, and Insurance PACS pay them to listen to....

Nothing is ever going to change as long as that pretty green stuff keeps rolling in....

I read a saying in an Autobiography by a long retired Politician (not positive about the Author, been awhile, so I'm not going to name names - bleechers will probably recall, it caused quite a stir some years back!) -

"Money is a clean reward, with none of the attachments to religion or race....why shouldn't I have?...Everyone would if they could get by with it...)...

Maybe not verbatim but pretty close....

Anybody remember that one?

I learned very young NOT to use "everybody does it, Grandma" as an excuse...

DW45 there would be no difference drilling will not drive prices down. Even if they drill the reason big oil would give for the still high prices would be they can not process all the new crude fast enough!

Hey, Axe....

Yeah, seems like the few times I'm right is always the Bad stuff....

I was born at night, but it wasn't LAST night..., and I hate to ask myself "would I have done the same?"...Perfectly legal, and many (Hell, MOST) of these Old Money Families' kids were raised to be less than dirt if they didn't carry the Tradition forward....(It's just good, solid, Business competition,
Son!"...) -

Still....

I agree, Axe--current estimates place the deposits offshore and in the ANWR incredibly low--some estimate as little as 2-3 years supply. Even if there were, say, 10 years worth, you aren't going to feel any immediate (or long term, for that matter) relief at the pump. Mark Twain said that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results. And that's the drilling deal--THE FEARLESS LEADER says, "we're addicted to oil," and then turns around and tries to lift the ban on offshore drilling. That mentality is like fighting for peace, drinking to sobriety, screwing for celibacy...

I agree that drilling here will not drop gas prices to pre 1970s prices but you are living in a dream world if you think it will not help keep them from going up drastically in the future. I also know that the solution is not more oil but developing new, alternative energy sources. However, drilling will provide supply for now and the near future. A large part of the problem is the up and comming businesses in China and other foreign countries that are now using more and more oil. That being said, that is not going to change. The countries that are now producing oil and selling to us and other countries are not our friends and care nothing about how the gas prices at the pump are hurting us, the average American.
MBM, I don't know anything about geological surveys so I must depend on reports from those that do know those those things. It just appears that the estimates of the amount of oil offshore and ANWAR depends on whether the geologist is for or against drilling.
My question is this, if China and any other foreign country can drill for oil offshore, then why can't US companies. No, more oil is not the answer for long term, but, new supplies to boost the supply can and will hold prices down while alternative anergy can be developed. Why allow others to drill oil off our coasts just to sell it back to us when we won't allow our own companies to drill. Why can't our government allow new refineries and nuclear power plants? The president is not the blame for this mess, it is congress.

Bunch of nonsense! I say, drill anywhere we like. Who cares how long it'll take. We're already getting cheaper than the majority. Just look at Europe. I hate it too, but we are still paying less.

The drilling now means that later we will at least have our own reserve. The US will not have to depend on someone elses' oil. We can tell those saudis and others where they can ship it to.

Justme is right... alternatives are the way of the future.

If Obama doesn't put the drilling issue to the forefront as an affirmative. He might as well forget it.

It was Bill Clinton that said "its the economy stupid."
