My reasons for not being a politician.....
1. It would be very hard for me to look people in the eye and lie.
2. It would be hard to give people false hope just to get elected.
3. I don't like to travel much but when I do I pay my own way.
4. I don't feel good about agreeing with people I don't like or trust.
5. I wouldn't like throwing people under the bus just to keep my job.
6. I wouldn't like people asking for favors.I don't ask for them why should they ?
7. I wouldn't like starting on a job that was pre determined to fail by people above me.
8. I couldn't find myself agreeing with or supporting a fool to gain status.

As a full-blooded Italian-American (although I prefer just plain old “American”) I’ve become comfortable with being labeled “white.” Although, I’m not quite sure what that means.
Where I grew up, we didn't consider anyone "white." You were Italian or Polish or German or Irish or Jewish. I still don't consider myself "white."
Right after graduating from UNCG I applied for a position with a bank. On the application I was asked to check a box for race. I asked the bank representative which box I should check.
She said “white.”
I asked her what that meant…
“People of European descent,” she responded.
“What about Hispanics; they’re of European descent,” I noted.
“Well, Anglo-Saxons then,” she added.
“But I’m not Anglo-Saxon.”
“What are you then?”
“I was born just outside of Philadelphia. You can’t get much more ‘American’ than that.”
“I mean, if you’re not Anglo-Saxon, what are you?” she pressed.
“I dunno, my mother was born near Bari, Italy, and my father’s family is from Naples. We’re not Anglo-Saxons; neither are the Greeks; neither are the Slavs. Italians are actually genetically closer to the Greek and Lebanese people than to Anglo-Saxons. Over the last two thousand years, just about every ethnic group from Africa to the middle east to northern Europe has been through Italy. It's interesting that-”
“Well then I don’t know what box you should check.”
“Oh, OK. I’ll just check ‘Other’ and write in ‘Mediterranean’, does that work?”
“That will be fine, sir.”
Needless to say, I never received a call from that bank. I’m not sure if that was because they were “Anti-Mediterranean” or if they just weren’t interested in a smart-mouthed 22-year-old American from Philadelphia.

Did you know that 52 of the 55 signers of The Declaration of
Independence were orthodox, deeply committed Christians? The other
three all believed in the Bible as the divine truth, the God of
scripture, and His personal intervention.

It is the same congress that formed the American Bible Society.
Immediately after creating the Declaration of Independence, the
Continental Congress voted to purchase and import 20,000 copies of
scripture for the people of this nation.
Patrick Henry, who is called the firebrand of the American Revolution,
is still remembered for his words, "Give me liberty or give me death."
But in current textbooks the context of these words is deleted. Here is
what he said: "An appeal to arms and the God of hosts is all that is
left us. But we shall not fight our battle alone. There is a just God
that presides over the destinies of nations. The battle sir, is not of
the strong alone. Is life so dear or peace so sweet as to be purchased
at the price of chains and slavery? Forbid it almighty God. I know not
what course others may take, but as for me, give me liberty, or give me
death."
These sentences have now been erased from our textbooks.

Was Patrick Henry a Christian? These are the words he wrote shortly
before his death: "I have disposed of all my property to my family.
There is one thing more I wish I could give to them, and that is the
Christian religion. If they had that and I had not given them one cent,
they would be rich. If they have not that, and I had given them the
world, they would be poor."
Consider
these words that Thomas Jefferson wrote on the front of his well- worn
Bible: "I am a Christian, that is to say a disciple of the doctrines of
Jesus. I have little doubt that our whole country will soon be rallied
to the unity of our Creator and, I hope, to the pure doctrine of Jesus
also."

Consider these words from George Washington, the Father of our Nation, in his farewell speech on September 19, 1796:

"It is impossible to govern the world without God and the Bible. Of all
the dispositions and habits that lead to political prosperity, our
religion and morality are the indispensable supporters. Let us with
caution indulge the supposition that morality can be maintained without
religion. Reason and experience both forbid us to expect that our
national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principle."
Was George Washington a Christian? Consider these words from his
personal prayer book: "Oh, eternal and everlasting God, direct my
thoughts, words and work. Wash away my sins in the immaculate blood of
the lamb and purge my heart by the Holy Spirit. Daily, frame me more
and more in the likeness of thy son, Jesus Christ, that living in thy
fear, and dying in thy favor, I may in thy appointed time obtain the
resurrection of the justified unto eternal life. Bless, O Lord, the
whole race of mankind and let the world be filled with the knowledge of
thy son, Jesus Christ."

Consider these words by John Adams, our second president, who also served as chairman of the American Bible Society.

In an address to military leaders he said, "We have no government armed
with the power capable of contending with human passions, unbridled by
morality and true religion. Our constitution was made only for a moral
and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any
other."
How about our first Court Justice, John Jay?

He stated that when we select our national leaders, if we are to
preserve our Nation, we must select Christians. "Providence has given
to our people the choice of their rulers and it is the duty as well as
the privilege and interest of our Christian Nation to select and prefer
Christians for their rulers."
John Quincy Adams, son of John Adams, was the sixth U.S. President.

He was also the chairman of the American Bible Society, which he
considered his highest and most important role. On July 4, 1821,
President Adams said, "The highest glory of the American Revolution was
this: it connected in one indissoluble bond the principles of civil
government with the principles of Christianity."

Calvin
Coolidge, our 30th President of the United States reaffirmed this truth
when he wrote, "The foundations of our society and our government rest
so much on the teachings of the Bible that it would be difficult to
support them if faith in these teachings would cease to be practically
universal in our country."

In 1782, the United States Congress voted this resolution: "The
congressof the United States recommends and approves the Holy Bible for
use in all schools."
William Holmes McGuffey is the author
of the McGuffey Reader, which was used for over 100 years in our public
schools with over 125 million copies sold until it was stopped in 1963.
President Lincoln called him the "Schoolmaster of the Nation."

Listen to these words of Mr. McGuffey: "The Christian religion is the
religion of our country. From it are derived our notions on character
of God, on the great moral Governor of the universe. On its doctrines
are founded the peculiarities of our free institutions. From no source
has the author drawn more conspicuously than from the sacred
Scriptures. From all these extracts from the Bible I make no apology."

Of the first 108 universities founded in America, 106 were distinctly Christian, including the first.
Harvard
University, chartered in 1636. In the original Harvard Student Handbook
rule number 1 was that students seeking entrance must know Latin and
Greek so that they could study the scriptures:

"Let every student be plainly instructed and earnestly pressed to
consider well, the main end of his life and studies is, to know God and
Jesus Christ, which is eternal life, John 17:3; and therefore to lay
Jesus Christ as the only foundation of all sound knowledge and
learning. And seeing the Lord only giveth wisdom, let everyone
seriously set himself by prayer in secret to seek it of him (Proverbs
2:3)."
For over 100 years, more than 50% of all Harvard graduates were pastors!

It
is clear from history that the Bible and the Christian faith, were
foundational in our educational and judicial system. However in 1947,
there was a radical change of direction in the Supreme Court.
It required ignoring every precedent of Supreme Court ruling for the
past 160 years. The Supreme Court ruled in a limited way to affirm a
wall of separation between church and state in the public classroom.
In the coming years, this led to removing prayer from public schools in 1962.

Here is the prayer that was banished:
"Almighty God, we acknowledge our dependence on Thee. We beg Thy
blessings upon us and our parents and our teachers and our country.
Amen."
In 1963, the Supreme Court ruled that Bible reading was outlawed as
unconstitutional in the public school system. The court offered this
justification: "If portions of the New Testament were read without
explanation, they could and have been psychologically harmful to
children."

Bible
reading in public schools was now unconstitutional , though the Bible
was quoted 94 percent of the time by those who wrote our constitution
and shaped our Nation and its system of education and justice and
government.

In 1965, the Courts denied as unconstitutional the rights of a student
in the public school cafeteria to bow his head and pray audibly for his
food.
In 1980, Stone vs. Graham outlawed the Ten Commandments in our public schools.

The Supreme Court said this: "If the posted copies of the Ten
Commandments were to have any effect at all, it would be to induce
school children to read them. And if they read them, meditated upon
them, and perhaps venerated and observed them, this is not a
permissible objective."
Is it not a permissible objective to allow our children to follow the moral principles of the Ten Commandments?

James
Madison, the primary author of the Constitution of the United States,
said this: "We have staked the whole future of our new nation, not upon
the power of government; far from it. We have staked the future of all
our political constitutions upon the capacity of each of ourselves to
govern ourselves according to the moral principles of the Ten
Commandments."
Today we are asking God to bless America. But how can He bless a Nation that has departed so far from Him?

The governor wants money to help determine how often poultry workers are hurt on the job.Don't we already have somebody to monitor on the job injuries or have they laid him off ? The man is always wanting money,everybody wants money.Well,I'll just put him on my needing money list with the rest of them.......Why do I even get a check ? Why don't they keep the check and just give me barely enough to live on ? Wait a minute,that sounds familiar.

At the gas pumps in this morning, I stare at the swiftly spinning dials, and the cycle of anger begins. Oil Robber Barons strike at the pumps again. I check out at the grocery store, Oil Robber Barons impact the food I eat. I come home and watch the nightly news, Oil Robber Barons, Oil Robber Barons, something about Hilary and Obama, Oil Robber Barons.
It is true that we are a capitalistic society, and our country enjoys the luxury of a free market, but when our economy is driven by Oil Robber Barons, where is the line between a free market society and out of control greed?
The countries that regulate thier oil sales, have a stronger dollar then the U.S. (They are financially stronger than the United States.) Why, because they know their economy is based off the cost of fuel. Do we need the same regulations to protect our country, or do we allow Oil Robber Barons to drive down America until we are a weak, over inflated, hollow country, dependant on the generosity of other nations?

I'm sitting here at the headquarters of NC State Treasurer Richard Moore. Over the past year, he and Lt. Governor Bev Perdue have been in a tussle for the state's top job of governor.
Right now we're just waiting on the results of the democratic primary to come in, but things don't look good for Moore. It's something his staff admitted to us this afternoon. They knew it would be a battle to beat Bev, but they gave it their shot.
Moore, 47, is no stranger to politics. He's held some sort of office all his working life. And he's the sixth person in his family to serve in state politics.
So what happens to Moore if he doesn't win? Well, he keeps his job as treasurer through December. Then, who knows. He has a law degree and a masters in economics. He's been the rudder for the state during two major hurricanes - Fran and Floyd - as the head of crime control and public safety.
Regardless of who wins the democratic primary, both are tried and true in politics.

I'll try to add to this throughout the day to give you a little behind the scenes of the day as we cover the North Carolina and Indiana primaries. It's about 12:15 right now... I've been in the office for about 45 minutes.... about 2 hours earlier than usual. We're getting crews out the door for tonight. Brent Campbell is covering Obama. We'll get help from our sister stations in St. Louis and Chicago to cover the Clinton headquarters in Indiana. Leah Beno, Angela Rodriguez, Nicole Ferguson and Caron Myers are on the governor's races and Chad Tucker and Roxanna Haynes are covering Kay Hagan and the local races.. especially the bonds in Guilford County. Neill and Julie will lead the coverage from the studio with Bob Buckley and Melissa Painter helping out. FOX News anchor Shepard Smith will join Neill and Julie at about 10:45 tonight. We'll also have Elon University's Dr. Hunter Bacot with us to add some perspective to the voting. It will be interesting to see if we get a runoff in the Republican race for governor.
It's a little after 1pm. Julie Luck has just arrived. She's going through her binder with all of her notes about the races were are covering tonight.

It's just after 3pm now... we're finished with the afternoon editorial meeting. All of the crews are just about in place. Bob Buckley is practicing with our new tool called News Navigator. You've probably seen us use it with varying degrees of success over the last few weeks. It has the ability to work with a touch screen and we're able to build some different types of map based graphics with it.
It's starting to get a little hectic. All of the crews are now sending back their scripts and video from the field.
We're through the early newscasts. So far, so good technically considering how many crews we have out and how many of our partner stations we're trying to coordinate with.
Talk about your ultimate TV set up... here is what our producer sees during the newscast.

As of 7pm our reporter from our sister station in Chicago says to expect Hillary Clinton to give her speech in Indianapolis sometime after 9pm. We'll stream it and bring you a live report in the 10pm news.
Update: 8:30pm
The Newsroom is really buzzing now.... we have people from news as well as sales and finance and interns buzzing over computers... entering the returns into our system that puts them on the website and on-line. Lesa Layno from our assignment desk puts all of the races together. She does a great job. It's very tedious work. Our Operations Manager Timmy Hawks and I are busy working the phones talking to satellite trucks and the crews in the field.. so far we've kept it to the organized chaos level. The timing of victory and concession speeches will really dictate how things go from here on out.
We're expecting Kay Hagan just before 9pm and we'll try to stream it live on the site.

Minimum Wage
I propose we raise the minimum wage to $15, no, $20 an hour.
We can then lower the average work week to 32 hours. This way our lowest paid
workers will make over $33,000 dollars per year. If companies want to lay
off workers, they will be required to pay each worker 90% of its base salary for two
years and continue to provide health, vision, dental and pet insurance benefits (note that the word "pet" is under review for any possible self-esteem-lowering effects). Future wage
levels will be decided by a blue-ribbon panel appointed by me.
The Workplace
Employers will be required by law to provide six weeks of
paid vacation to all workers. Executives will have their salaries reviewed by
the blue-ribbon government panel.
Healthcare
Healthcare will be provided for all Americans. Doctors will
be limited to a salary of $66000 per year (twice minimum wage!). Since these “winners
of life’s lottery” will be making so much, they will be heavily taxed for
gouging us. Pharmaceutical companies will be forced to provide needed medicines
at cost (or below, if cost is considered too costly by the blue-ribbon
government panel).
Gas Prices
I propose we punish any company making a profit; especially oil companies. Obviously,
if a company is making money for itself, its employees and its investors, they
must be up to no good. I will implement a massive tax increase on any profit
the oil companies earn, er, not “earn,” um… “steal.” Of course, I will also be
asking for an increase in the federal gas tax. This is America and success must
be punished.
Trade Policy
I will punish any company for offering products at
lower prices. All Chinese imports will be subject to heavy tariffs (to be
determined by the blue-ribbon government panel). Some of the revenue from the tariffs will be sent back to the Chinese because I'm sure we've oppressed them at some point. With all that extra income
from the increase in the minimum wage, I believe Americans will be willing to
pay more for everything.
Defense
All issues dealing with foreign policy and defense will be determined by a special United Nations blue-ribbon panel. I will immediately apologize to everyone on the planet for the US being so successful and for damaging their self-esteem by forcing them to accept our billions in aid. Reparations will be paid to France for all the American blood we left on their shores.
Crime
Crime will no longer be a problem. With everyone making so
much money, no one will commit any crimes. Billions will be saved as we empty
our prisons which are currently filled with victims of a system that did not
address their needs. In addition, all expressions of faith (except those which are overtly anti-American) will be reviewed by the blue-ribbon panel.
Gender Issues
Terms such as “man,” “woman,” “human,” and similar will not
be used in my administration. I find a title such as “Chairperson” to be “specist.”
I will use titles such as “Chairorganism” and my partner for at least the moment
will be addressed as “First Carbon-Based Life Form” (unless we find life on other
planets based on silicon, etc.). All other titles will be decided by a centralized
blue-ribbon government panel.
Education
Access to an equal education is a basic human right. I propose we force
schools such as Harvard, Stanford and Duke to stop charging such large sums for
access to their professors. Similarly, I propose that the salaries of
professors and administrators be reviewed by a blue-ribbon government panel.
Hold on, my phone is ringing… OK, forget about the university stuff. We will preserve "Academic Freedom" in this area.
Food, Housing and Life Decisions
To relieve families of the stress of making life decisions,
all decisions will slowly be moved to the centralized, blue-ribbon government
panel. We have seen that Americans are incapable of following government food
guidelines, so, just as we will do with the oil companies, we will be forced to
monitor your life decisions for the greater good. We cannot risk anyone starting
to succeed or anyone making a bad life decision. Therefore, all such decisions
will be handled by the new position of “Secretary of Decision-Making for
Carbon-Based Life Forms.”
Wealth Creation
I have no idea how this happens. The creation of wealth will
be assigned to the blue ribbon panel.
