why is gasoline so expensive? i know it's over 100.00 a barrel,but why? i thought we had oil in the U.S. , i don't understand. maybe i'm missing something.

FOX8 Meteorologists are predicting stormy weather for tomorrow.  Incidentally that's Mother's Day, and although this may sound strange, the storms seem fitting.  Let me explain:

This is my second Mother's Day.  I barely slipped in last year, as my daughter was just a wee little thing.  So for the past year and change, I've endured my share of storms.  According to my mother, and every other mom I speak with, I have yet to witness the really difficult stuff. 

I feel that the love I have for my mother grows stronger with each passing day.  I realize she surely weathered many a storm raising 7 children, and for many years as a single parent after my parents divorced.  The thought is unimaginable that what I'm going through with my toddler she did 7 times over! 

Mommyhood is such a beautiful experience, but the toughest job I've ever had!  On this Mother's Day, I will take the time to make sure my mom knows she is very much loved and appreciated.  I feel so grateful to have a mom who exhibited the wisdom and compassion needed to raise loving and intelligent children.  Because of her, my siblings and I are disciplined, determined, compassionate, intelligent, and myriad other attributes that we owe in part to our upbringing.

If I may I would like to say no president cannot do anything without congress oking it....As a republican I would like to say that when George Bush was reelected in 2004 that all I have seen on TV is democrats running for office for four years and they have not stopped yet!........Are democrats ready to sell their soul for their own people in the white house......What is it about being president that makes these people want it so badly ? Am I missing something??Do all these democrats work for Tim Gribbs out of Colorado......The Quork Company????Mr Bush  is not to blame for our prpblem , I would look at our congress for that role.....Do you think the next president will do any better without congress support??? I don't think so.....

Hello everbody, got some information that could save you a lot of trouble!

If you use a Debit card at Quality Mart Gas Stations across the triad, are you aware that they not only charge you for the gas (expected) but what's next is what fired me up.

I purchased $40.00 of gas on my debit card on May 8, 2008 (9:36am)at the Quality Mart on the corner of Peacehaven and Country Club Rd. in Winston Salem. Well I thought everything was normal until I checked my account on the 9th, at 3:30pm. Quality Mart had charged me $100.00 and another charge for $40.00. Ok so my accound said the $100.00 was Pending, FOR WHAT! . They got their money $40.00. Now that $100 is no longer available to me until its released by Quality Mart, and no body knows when, thats my money, who are they to lock me out of my money. 

I went back to the station and talked to the Manager, soon the ast. manager CARLOS had to put his two cents in, and though it was funny that I might contest this, its a everyday event, you cant used the money unitl its released dont you know that Carlos told me. He has no clue! The manager (ED) was not talking, as a matter of fact he did not care about my problem, he was busy.

Because of the lack of concern or customer service displayed by both the Manager (ED) and the Ast Maanger (Carlos) I make my next move, thats got to be a crime!

I called the Winston Salem Police, i do think that its a crime.

When the police showed up some 2 hours later, the officer was little help, he said that thats how some gas stations work,  Its my first experance, I have been purchasing gas for 36 years. The officer also agreed with the ast manager, its the banks fault (I laughed at that). Now I know better then that, the bank had no idea were I was going to get gas, the Bank process the gas stations merchant service at their request via a transaction and charges the gas station a agreed amount or percent per transaction, the police officer and the ast manager have no clue how that works or what they are even talking about, (Oh, but the way the manager left before the poilce arrived).

So I left, and got home and called my bank. They said that that money placed on hold was done by the gas station and they should have released that as soon as the purchase was complete per their agreement. So in the end, Quality Mart is abusing their customers buy holding their customers money above and beyond the purchase, knowing that they are locking up the customers money for 2 to 10 days before making those funds available to the customer,  who can argue that we have the right to use our money as we please.

I do think that Quality Mart or any other gas station should be make to post at the pump about this so the card user may make a better desision on their own money. I feel the sign they should be made to post should go like this,

                                                      
   WARNING!!!!!!! Using a debit card at this pump could and will result in $100.00 of your money be locked away from your use for 2 to 10 days above and beyond the purchase amount, These fund will not be available to you until released by us.

This would make a great consumer spot on FOX8, I would love to hear the management of Quality Oil explain this!

I found it very appaling that in our newly built animal shelter, a gas chamber would be installed. North Carolina doesn't even offer this as an option for convicted killers, why should animals be subjected to this cruel and horrifying executions?

Yesterday, Mike Easley said that we should let Illegal Immigrants go to NC community colleges for free!  What are we going to next, give them free gas!?  This really makes me mad, I am a 22 year old college student trying to pay out of pocket for all my school and books and I'm just about broke and I will have to end up paying for illegals to go to college FREE, I don't like it one bit!. 

I can't even get any help whatsoever!  I know some of you whether parents or students are im my same shoes.  Mike Easley, you need to stop and look around!  ANOTHER THING!  If we do give them free tution and free books and they go to college we are going to have the same problem with the language issue that we are in Elementary/middle/high school now!  What if the illegals (going to school FREE of charge) drop out of school?  What are you going to say about that Mike?  You let illegals go to school, screwing the students that try and want to make a living for themselves like me! 

I am going to be paying $150 for ONE book for this summer class I will be taking, 

Do something about the Book prices Mike to help the NC/U.S. citizens!  Mike you've already endorsed Hillary, you need to GO!

  Now here are the facts republicans have destroyed this country they have been in control of this country 20 of the last 28 years, but all you see and hear is how Clinton gave us NAFTA when in fact more republicans supported NAFTA then Democrats so stop the lying and stop with the selective memory! NAFTA did not take jobs to China the greedy rich are taking jobs to China.  Good night John boy!

 

 

Whereas the devastation and human suffering is rampant in Myanmar and it is a sad situation, I have to ask:

Why is the US busting a gut to get aid to that place when they are refusing to let the planes land? 

Is is just me, or would the billions in aid be better spent HERE on the people who are suffering AND who pay taxes to make the aid possible?

Am I out of range here?  Any thoughts? 

 

Those following the digital transition know that February 17, 2009 is poised to be a special day in the annuals of broadcasting. The day the USA ceases full power analog television broadcasting, UNLESS you live or frequent Wilmington, North Carolina.

In true Washington fashion, FCC Commissioner Michael Copps, a Democrat, has been haranging FCC Chairman Kevin Martin, a Republican and a North Carolina native son from Charlotte, that a test market for the transition needs to be set up to see if people can ACTUALLY see digital television before the February 17 cut off date. His rational "Real-world experience is an extremely important step—although only one of many—that will help minimize consumer disruption next February. Broadway shows open on the road to work out the kinks before opening night. The DTV transition deserves no less". I guess Commissioner Copps missed the memo that stated stations have been broadcasting digital for almost 10 years and there are people who ACTUALLY watch TV this way, but hey, Washington can't let a good political jab get in the way of the truth, but I digress.

The FCC has announced that starting September 8, 2008, the full power analog television stations in the Wilmington DMA must cease their analog broadcasts. So if you live in Wilmington, go to the beach in the Wilmington area, or watch the Wilmington stations, be sure you have either a new digital TV, a converter box or have cable or satellite by September 8 or you will see static on your analog only TV after that.

Wilmington was picked because all of their digital stations are on the air at full power, on their final channels and locations and the population is less than 100,000 and a low penetration of free over the air households, meaning 92% of TV watchers get their TV from cable or satellite leaving only 8% who get it over the air, a low number nationwide. I don't think the FCC figured in the vacationers who bring TVs into the market on their stays and most use antennas. But I digress again, sorry.

The local Wilmington stations have already stepped up telling viewers to be ready for the switch on September 8th by telling them how and where to get the government converter boxes and who will need them. WECT TV wasted no time in getting their website up and running with the latest information for people in the Wilmington area.

The Mayor of Wilmington, Bill Saffo, seems pretty happy to be the test market. He says, "It's a huge opportunity for Wilmington to pave the way for the rest of country. I am looking forward to working with [the FCC] and honored to be the first community in the country to do it." Saffo said he was well-aware that the eyes of the nation would be following DTV developments in his town.

Well the industry will be watching that is for sure. But if the rest of the country will, that is yet to be determined.
