Well here we go again with the "wintery mix" on thursday! Boy I am feeling it! My head is pounding!!! I get headaches when fronts come in, so heres hoping that my headache is a sign that this will be hitting!!!

Seeing how thursday is my birthday I am praying that I will get my biggest birthday wish... SNOW not just a wet mess! Though I do feel like all these wintery mixes are a big tease to what we could have I am thankful for anything! I wonder why we go through some years that are abundant in snow or winter weather in general and other years it is barely a flake of snow to be seen? I suppose that the mountains play a part in it and the right weather system would have to come into play, but are there any other reasons that we are a big dry spot in the winter weather department year after year?

I still say I am going to get a summer home in Alaska when I become a big artist and get rich lol ! I will always be here for spring and fall though, I do love the cooler temps and all the colors of those two seasons. I am just not a summer girl , it is way to hot for me! I remember the one year I was in Ohio and it was 90 degrees and 10% humidity, it was warm but not over bareing. I thought about the difference in how 90 degrees felt there and how it felt here... I thought it was interesting how much cooler it felt !

I love weather, as soon as a storm is approaching I am glued to the TV and watching out the window. i will never forget the time I was watching the weather report on Fox 8 and Van I think was showing a pan view of the city. As he panned he came to a wall cloud and was saying where it was, I asked my mother, who was standing outside, where that was and she looked up in the sky and said "Over our heads"!! Sure enough I walked out side and looked up there it was... a big orangey grey swirling cloud! I was freaked and amazed all at once, I had never come so close to seeing one and here it was above my head! Thankfully nothing ever dropped down out of it but it was the most amazing thing i had ever seen... well aside from the "oak tree" lightening I seen in Ohio one year that caused me to jump and run and step on a piece of glass! That was the other time that I came close to a tornado, but I never seen anything I only heard about it and then seen the damages as I weaved this way and that around tree branches in the road and looked at the pitch black sky as it was moving away!

Other then the wall cloud the most amazing thing I have seen around here is our creek go from almost nothing to a river! The one time It over flowed so bad that there was a waterfall.. that was due to a clog though. We have also had to push a car out of the water before...there was only an inch of water in the car and we were up to our knees in water...we managed to push it out. I know they say stay out of it, but if you seen the area I am talking about it wasn't like I was going to get very far should I have been wisked away in it...lol. The one thing I find kind of funny is how people act so different to the water in the road in front of our house, you have to cross it to get to our driveway so I have a really good veiw of it. But some people creep slowly across it, others stop and wait before deciding to cross it and other zoom right through it as though it wasn't there! I usually stop for a second if it is high enough to make sure that the man hole cover has not popped off, and it has been known to do that. but other then that it is the one place I know that I can cross water and be safe! I have experience from when I lived and visited Ohio, there is this beautiful park in the middle of the city I grew up in, all based around the black river. There is a ford in the middle of the park that does overflow, and because of that sometimes it is closed off, but there have been times when the water was over it but not so high they closed it that we could drive over it in the water... talk about a neat thing for a kid. It felt like we were on a boat crossing the river. I loved the place and to this day when I visit my home town I go to this park. It is So very pretty and when you are in it you forget that you are smack dead in the middle of a city! so many trees and large boulders! I will have to post some pictures one day on here to share that with all of you! If you are ever in Elyria Ohio ask about Cascade park!

****Global Warming Perhaps??? Or perhaps, since the atmosphere is always trying to continually "balance" itself out, we could be just going through a "period" of warmer weather to equal the colder period we had in the 70s and 80s. Havent done any checking into the facts on this(ie 70s/80s colder), but feel fairly sure they werent as warm as we have been lately, and im talking on the past several years. Hopefully, it isnt global warming as I would hate to see less snow each year as I too miss all the big snows from the past years. But there are alot of facts out there to support global warming. But it still does snow here in the Piedmont, and 100% sure it will continue to do so in the future. Just a matter of timing with cold air and moisture meeting up at the right time.

I will never forget that day when you saw that Wall Cloud. It was in May 1998. The storm had already dropped a tornado on Clemmons and dropped another smaller twister near BLEEP Club in North High Point and in the Friendship community south of the airport.

To completely answer your question would take more time than I have or space available to write.
In a nutshell....it all has to do with timing. We can and do get cold. Even in the mildest winters we have cold outbreaks (notice our pattern lately). Still, for us to get snowfall the storm track is critical. Most of our good snow come from a Gulf Coast low pressure wave. Many times when they come northeast the air isn't cold enough. Even when they do, they may not track exactly as we need them too. Too far west and they drag too much warm air into the mid levels of the atmostphere. Too far east and the snow stays along the I-95 corridor. That might even happen this Sunday.

Fortunately, for winter weather fans we have a chance here on Thursday. However, the timing isn't perfect and that will likely lead to ice and rain too.

I am a 25 year old stay at home mom of one very smart and active 4 year old. I have been married for 3+ years and together for 6+ years. I have lived in NC for the past 9 years. I met my husband here in NC after we both spent most of our lives in Ohio an hour apart (I 16 years in the same town and house him for 14 years I think). After spending 3 days together we both knew that we would be together for the rest of our lives... though it took us 3 years and a baby to get married! (we did not get married because of our son as a side note) My biggest dream is to become a well known artist and make a living at it. I do all kinds of art including plaster carvings, painting, scratch board, and sketching. I did not go to school for my art, I have been at it since before i can remember. I am self tought. I also do some crafts such as cross stitch and croche'. I have done work painting sets and making posters for The Staind Glass Playhouse in Winston Salem as well as some set painting in Lewisville for the West Side Civic Theatre. My husband, who is an actor, is the reason I got associated with these theatres to begin with. It is alot of work and fun but I am always glad to see winter months ahead and not just because I like the cold weather! Recently my Art activity has increased and things are looking good in the way of possibly making a living at this...slow going but you got to start somewhere! One day you may just know my name and face without having ever met me! Heck you may even buy a painting or ask me for a portrait of your family members!
