As much as I love this wintery weather it does have a BIG downfall for me. Namely I get a cold every time! At the moment I am sick, stuffed nose, aching body, sleepy and even a little dizzy. This is not the first time and I knew it was coming with the firt string of sneezing!

When the temps go up and down like they have been my sinuses go nuts and I end up with a sinus infection. This leads to coughing and feeling like a blob. I HATE feeling like this. But I am very prone to sinus infections. I never really knew why, didn't bother asking the doctor when I used to go for this stuff.

My theory is that because my nose is rather small that my sinus cavities are as well... I don't know if that is possible but it makes sense to me! lol THe other thought i have had is maybe because my nostrels are so small that it doesn't do it's job as well as someone with a regular size nose... Much like a young child they always seem to catch colds even before they are in school. My 2 year old son sure does and I worry that my genes have effected him the way they have me. I know he has "my nose" and has already shown in the past that he gets colds easily as well as ear infections (thank goodness those have stopped!) I have also thought that maybe my immune system isn't up to par, but then again I never seem to get fevers or anything else like the flu or stomache viruses, just sinus infections and colds. I have had strep throat in the past, but that was because my husband had it and in turn gave it to me, like me with sinus problems he catches strep easily.

So I am still to wonder why I am so prone to these sinus infections and colds? I am a smoker but this isn't really a factor to me because I have ALWAYS been like this, even before I picked up my first one. Like I said my son has shown me that he is much like me when it comes to sinuses, as it were I also was a chronic ear infection case when I was his age. I am concerned he will have to deal with these annoying and uncomfortable sinus infections for the rest of his life and I am not sure if there is anyway I can prevent that from happening or if I can help them not be so bad for him.

I love hearing other people's input on things so if you know ANYTHING about sinus infections or simply want to share your story with me PLEASE DO!

Like you I suffered SEVERAL years with sinus and ear infections. Now I use a humidifier and that has decreased my problems drastically. Although I'm not a doctor, I don't think the size of a nose has anything to do with it. My nose is large. However, I do know that nasal cavities can vary in people and not proportional to nose size.

When the temperature drops outside the humidity inside your home will decrease. This is because when cold air is heated the humidity drops. When the humidity gets to low in the home it starts to affect the sinus cavities, get infected and then you're sick. In addition to getting a humudifier you probably also want to get something to check the humidity in the air. If the air becomes too humid then mold can start growing, which can cause a whole new set of problems. I usually keep mine around 40-45 percent.

If anyone knows anything more or want to correct me please do.

Thank you, I Do live in the lower portion of the house and it is a mold prone area... in fact we have to have de-humidify during summer months, in winter the entire house is humidified via the air system. Though I agree that mold is problem causeing on many leavels I have always had these problems but only lived in this house for the past 7 years. SO mold may be part of it seeing how during the summer my allergies take on a life of their own, but winter I don't know!!! That sounds probable and I will keep it in mind!

I am far from being a doctor so I won't dispute that you are right about the nose and cavities! But I do wonder if the size of the cavities could be a factor in it? hmmmm I think this is something I will be doing some research on!

Thanks again for the input, gave me something else to really think about and check into!

i am in no way trying endorsing any product here, this is just from personal experience. I averaged about 4 cold and sinus infections per year, or one about every 3 months. It put me out of work for about a week at a time. Someone told me about a product called zicam. I have used it at first sign of cold, and it stops it dead in its tracks. It is gone in about 48 hours. I use the nasal gel. Usually after I get a head cold and sinus infection it would go down into my lungs and turn into a bad chest cold, I havent had a bad episode in about 6 months now. Its worth a shot to try it

I am a 25 year old stay at home mom of one very smart and active 4 year old. I have been married for 3+ years and together for 6+ years. I have lived in NC for the past 9 years. I met my husband here in NC after we both spent most of our lives in Ohio an hour apart (I 16 years in the same town and house him for 14 years I think). After spending 3 days together we both knew that we would be together for the rest of our lives... though it took us 3 years and a baby to get married! (we did not get married because of our son as a side note) My biggest dream is to become a well known artist and make a living at it. I do all kinds of art including plaster carvings, painting, scratch board, and sketching. I did not go to school for my art, I have been at it since before i can remember. I am self tought. I also do some crafts such as cross stitch and croche'. I have done work painting sets and making posters for The Staind Glass Playhouse in Winston Salem as well as some set painting in Lewisville for the West Side Civic Theatre. My husband, who is an actor, is the reason I got associated with these theatres to begin with. It is alot of work and fun but I am always glad to see winter months ahead and not just because I like the cold weather! Recently my Art activity has increased and things are looking good in the way of possibly making a living at this...slow going but you got to start somewhere! One day you may just know my name and face without having ever met me! Heck you may even buy a painting or ask me for a portrait of your family members!
