We are now entering into a very active weather pattern. One that is likely to produce some severe weather.

Thursday night we are under the gun with a potential for damaging winds and some hail. A good night to have a weather radio on stand-by. If you don't have a weather radio, they make a great investment and can be found at most electronic stores. Also, they can be purchased online. Just do a Google search NOAA Weather Radios.

There is also a great deal of concern about Mother's Day and the potential for a significant ourbreak of severe weather. I know many of you will be busy with Mother's Day, Graduations, etc. Do keep a close eye on the weather as it could change rapidly.

Here is an excellent link to the severe weather threat that is updated by the Storm Prediction Center every 4 hours. This is the same source that we hear at FOX 8 use for our Storm Outlooks.

now at 7am the morning after, we are beginning to learn the magnitude of what a lot of people will remember for yeard to come as "the outbreak" right here in our own backyards. We know there has been at least one loss of life, some injuries and numerous homes and business damaged or destroyed in numerous areas acros the viewing area. Van, you and your team did an excellent job of coverage for over 6 hours keeping us informed and letting us know just how serious these storms were to be taken. Thank you for all that you do and our family will be praying for all our viewing neighbors who cannot get to their computers this morning or have no power.

Van, I agree with B_R, YOU and the rest of the entire FOX8 TEAM did an EXCELLENT JOB of covering this severe weather outbreak and predicting its path!!! Frankly, I was amazed at the number of reporters that Fox8 had 'in the field' last night while the 'brunt' of the bad weather was happening!!! I was up with you until 2am, since I was assured by that time that we would not get one of the severe storms that had yielded a 'tornado warning'. Your dedication to your profession is so commendable, and as I said, I was really impressed with the Neill and Julie 'hanging in there' along with the reporters in the field, such as Leah Beno (poor thing stuck in stand-still traffic on I-40), Angela Rodriguez (in Advance), Chris Tucker (I believe, since it was by telephone) in the PTIA area, and all the other journalists, reporters, and cinematographers (photojournalists) that stayed up all night, and were on again this morning at 5am!!! GREAT JOB!!! This is why we depend and count on Fox8!!! Cheers!!!

Kudos to *all* the Fox8 news family for thier dedicated coverage and support of the community during what has turned out to be a devastating time for many. I fully believe that the coverage made available by Fox8 WGHP, the real-time info provided by Neil, Julie, Van, Charles and the coverage by the "in-the-field" (or in-the-line-of-fire) reporters helped to make the difference in a lot of peoples own lives last nite. The fact, that in the face of such dramatic images as we are seeing today, that there was only 1 fatality is just a miracle to me. It could have been so much worse. You are all heroes in my book!

I agree with all above. You all did a great job covering the storms. We dodged a bullet here in Thomasville again. My thoughts & prayers are with those who suffered from the storms. I hope the forecast changes for Sunday, but I know FOX 8 will be there again keeping us informed. Great Job!!!

The latest on the Sunday threat is for SC and coastal NC to get hammered. We have to hope the App Wedge holds. If it does, we get mostly rain. If it breaks, we too could see severe weather....

GIVEN THE CONTINUED MOISTENING OF THE BOUNDARY LAYER ACROSS THE GULF
BASIN. LATEST DATA SUGGESTS 1.5-1.75 PW WATER VALUES WILL
OVERSPREAD ALL OF THE GULF STATES INTO THE CAROLINAS AHEAD OF
SURGING FRONTAL ZONE. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE ONGOING AT THE
BEGINNING OF THE PERIOD FROM SRN MS INTO AL AND POSSIBLY MIDDLE/ERN
TN. THIS ACTIVITY SHOULD SPREAD DOWNSTREAM DURING THE DAYLIGHT
HOURS AS UPPER SPEED MAX EJECTS EWD. VERY STRONG DEEP WLY FLOW

.........COULD EASILY BE LONG-TRACK AND POSSIBLY
DAMAGING.

NWD RECOVERY ACROSS THE COASTAL CAROLINAS WILL ULTIMATELY DETERMINE
THE SEVERE THREAT EAST OF THE APPALACHIANS. THERE IS SOME QUESTION
HOW MUCH INSTABILITY WILL OVERSPREAD NC AS THE NAM SUPPRESSES THE
SFC LOW OFF THE SRN NC COAST...WHILE THE GFS ALLOWS CYCLOGENESIS
MUCH FARTHER INLAND. SEVERE THREAT WILL BE NOTABLE ALONG/SOUTH OF
WEDGE FRONTAL POSITION.

These blogs are a great addition for someone who likes to talk. During the weather reports, I have a device in my ear called an IFB. The producers give us a countdown and tell us when we must stop talking. You should hear them yell wrap in your ear. ? Through my blog, I am able to give you a little more and I hope you will share in these stories with me.
