Please post your snowfall totals on this blog and upload your snow pictures.  Remember, uploads are limited to a total of 1 Meg per upload.

An upper level low tonight was able to work with enough moisture to give the piedmont a quick shot of moderate to heavy snow.   The air aloft was so cold that we actually had thundersnow in many spots.  This is the same as a spring thunderstorm, but happens when the air is cold enough for snow instead of rain.

The snow certainly was a surprise, however, Tuesday night at 10:30 we did show one computer model that suggested this potential and we mentioned it was possible and not to be totally surprised if it happened.  Still, with all other models not picking up on the chance, it was down played.   As a matter of fact, no watches or advisories were issued for this system.   After the fact, the numbers show we had enough that we could have justified a Winter Weather Advisory.  Most areas picked up between 1 and 3 inches.

How much did you get?

Van, I will probably have to await the daylight to take pix of the snow, but we got a LOT in Mebane!!! Pete had to go back into work to put the snowtires and chains on the Emergency vehicles! This is the first time he has ever been called back in, in the past four years!!! So, we had quite an accummulation here in Alamance County! I'll try to upload some photos in the morning after daylight!

I heard that there was thunder with the snow. I wish I had heard it. This made me wonder if a thundersnow would still hold true as a thunderstorm under that old saying about thunderstorms in the winter?

Van as of midnight, 2.5" grid-measured. Also got .38 water equevilant. That is melted snow AND rain since 8am, so I'm guessing .10 or so was rain from earlier before the snow began. I have posted numerous pictures on my profile, blog thingee. It came down very hard for a long time here in Burlington.

Van, in Reidsville, I just went out to check on a little RV cover, & man the snow really is laying heavy on it. It sure is pretty out thou. I measured the depth in several places & on top of a cold truck roof I got a total of 4 inches.

These blogs are a great addition for someone who likes to talk. During the weather reports, I have a device in my ear called an IFB. The producers give us a countdown and tell us when we must stop talking. You should hear them yell wrap in your ear. Through my blog, I am able to give you a little more and I hope you will share in these stories with me.
