Just watching the news and I saw Neil McNeil report on a story about Sarah Palin that was on the front page of the Washington Post about her per diem billings. Neil only gave one side of the story, and he didn't bother to look into it more fully. Neil pretty much portrayed Palin as a hypocrite.
Gov. Palin has spent far less on her personal travel than her
predecessor: $93,000 on airfare in 2007, compared with $463,000 spent
the year before by her predecessor, Frank Murkowski. He traveled often
in an executive jet that Palin called an extravagance during her
campaign. She sold it after she was sworn into office. So she cuts travel spending by approx. 80% but, ah yes, Neil protrays her in his piece as no fiscal
conservative.
Another point to remember: Alaska is two-and-half times the size of Texas with
probably fewer paved roads than Dallas. The state capital, Juneau, (which is cut off from the
rest of the state) is over 800 miles from Wasilla.
Why the Washington Post and Neil McNeil thought its story
about Gov. Palin's per diem expenses as governor was worthy of page one
treatment and a mention on the news tonight is a real mystery. Yes, Palin sought per diem expenses for
some nights spent at her home in Wasilla when she was not staying at
the Governor's mansion in Juneau, but this is no scandal. If you read the story carefully you
learn that the per diem's she's sought are explicitly provided for
under state law, she sought less reimbursement than she's entitled to,
she sought less than her predecessor, and she also eliminated other
expenses that her predecessor imposed on Alaska's taxpayers (e.g. a
personal chef at the Governor's mansion).

LOS ANGELES (Fox News) — Here's news that Fox's series "Anchorwoman" wouldn't want to deliver: It's been canceled after one low-rated airing.
The debut of the reality show about Lauren Jones' attempt to turn herself into a news anchor for a Texas TV station drew an estimated 2.7 million viewers Wednesday, according to preliminary figures from Nielsen Media Research.
That number is about a third of the viewership Fox attracted a week earlier with the finale of its popular "So You Think You Can Dance."
Jones was a Barker Beauty on "The Price Is Right," Miss New York and featured WWE Diva before the series put her into the newsroom of KYTX Channel 19 in Tyler, Texas.
Unaired episodes of "Anchorwoman" will be available on Fox's website through Fox on Demand, the network said Thursday.

I have to say Melissa Painter is becoming my favorite news personality. She comes across so well on TV... She's attractive, articulate, caring & intelligent. I enjoy watching her on weekends and on the "Deal or Dud" segments. I hope Fox 8 doesn't lose her to another network.

From Speed TV:
“I was sort of hurt or upset or disappointed that Richard was put in the position he was this morning,” Earnhardt said after Nextel Cup practice Friday at Darlington. “Speculation wouldn’t make it to TV a couple of years ago, and these days, it seems to make it there pretty easily. … I just thought TV jumped the gun. He’s got drivers and crew members over there trying to win races and trying to do the best they can. The last thing I want to do is get in the middle of confusing their minds and starting rumors at his shop.”

From Speed TV:
Richard Childress said Friday morning at Darlington Raceway that he has not signed Dale Earnhardt, Jr., to drive for Richard Childress Racing and is giving the driver time and space to weigh his options. Along with Hendrick Motorsports and Joe Gibbs Racing, RCR is considered one of three front-runners to sign Earnhardt, Jr. for 2008 and beyond, but the car owner emphatically denied that a deal already had been struck, has reported by at least three television stations Thursday. "Dale, Jr. just made a major decision in his career and in his life yesterday," Childress said Friday morning at Darlington. "And out of respect for Teresa (Dale Earnhardt, Inc. team owner Earnhardt), Dale, Jr. and this situation, let´s all give him some time to make the decisions that he needs to make and be fair. He´s got a lot of tough decisions to make coming up with the direction he´s going, and I just think it´s fair if we all let him have some space and some time to kind of think about what he wants to do in the future." Childress said that while he would welcome Earnhardt on his team, the two sides have not yet begun negotiations. "We will sit and talk, I´m sure," Childress said. "I´m hoping he´s considering us, but I think right now, we just give him some time and space to do is own due diligence on the race teams he´s looking at. I´ve been friends with the family for many years and I´m sure we´ll talk." As for television reports that a deal was already struck, Childress was categorical in his denials. "There´s nothing to it ... it´s way too soon to even talk about it," Childress said.

Doing a Google Search, I found this pic of Julie and a write-up about her hair... Ha! Here's what is says:
NAME: Julie Luck
WHO IS SHE: TV news reporter in San Francisco
HER STYLE: Short with softness -- sideparted with safe bangs, and flares around the neck so subtle that they seem to be the way her hair naturally falls. (We've seen her hair about an inch shorter, and it had no flares at all.) Our photo makes us wonder if she gives the right-side hair a little extra "lift" at the crown for protection.
WHY WE LIKE IT: Our eyes first opened to this rising star when she presented morning news in South Carolina. Her hair was a touch shorter and tighter then, but still flawless. The bangs were still there, providing a bit of temptation.
The adjustments she's made since then are small, and add to the riskiness of the style. Yet we believe the risk of this hair falling is still quite small, as she takes care in preparing it. Her station "bio" page notes she was a major-college cheerleader, so she must know something about looking sharp in public pressure situations.
SUPER-HAIR? From what we've seen, it is -- but we admit we haven't seen it much. We'd appreciate input from Bay Area Hair Fans on how well her hair stays in line. When it comes to this style, though, we're led to believe "luck" has nothing to do with it. [Posted 4/9/2]

(CBS/AP) Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards won't participate in a debate co-hosted by Fox News and the Nevada Democratic Party, his campaign said, as party officials tried to settle a dustup over their partnership with the cable network.
Edwards' campaign said the involvement of Fox News, which is often accused by liberals of having a conservative bias, was part of the decision to pass on the Aug. 14 debate in Reno.
What a coward...

Looking at this year's ACC Tournament bracket, it seems highly unfair how they seeded the teams. For example, as a #1 seed, UNC will either play the #8 or #9 seed, but the #4 seed, Boston College will play either the #5 or #12 seed. In other words, if #12 Miami defeats #5 Maryland on Thursday, #4 Boston College will play the lowest seed in the tournament on Friday. That doesn't seem fair to me. They need to change which teams play against each other on Thursday... For example, they should have #11 Wake Forest play #12 Miami with the winner playing #1 UNC on Friday. They should have #9 Florida State play #10 NC State with the winner playing #2 Virginia. They should have #7 Duke play #8 Clemson with the winner playing #3 Virginia Tech. They should have #5 Maryland play #6 Georgia Tech with the winner playing #4 Boston College. Why doesn't the ACC do it this way because this is the only fair way to do it???

I can't help but laugh... My area was predicted to get between 3 - 5 inches of snow but we barely registered a dusting. I got to work this morning without any problems. I can't wait to hear from Van about what happened. Don't get it wrong, I'm glad they were wrong, but a lot of my co-workers missed work today thinking it was going to snow/sleet/ice nearly all day today.
