I'm going to tell you something in real plain words. We've got to end our oil dependence. We have to drill here now not tomorrow.Whether it will be cheaper or not......I don't know but I do know other people are controlling how much money we have for food and how much we travel.....Solar power, wind power their time is now.Anything to cut our demand for foreign oil.........I'll always believe oil got us over there and now we're just stuck .What will happen if Iran blocks the Strait of Hormuz as they have threaten ? More blood shed, more death will spread farther, much farther......because we won't drill or promote more sources of fuel and power in our own country. Our depending on people who absolutely hate us HAS TO END.We're sending our best over there ,one tour after another.God bless and protect each and everyone of them.

I agree with what all has been said. We need to drill for oil in our own back yard which there is plenty of oil to go around for us until we come up with an alternate source of energy that is affordable to all (and not just the rich). So what if the oil companies don't like it. They have been getting fat at our expense for decades and it is time for us to advance where we need to be.
Besides, there is enough oil just in Texas alone for the next 50 plus years.

While weare on the subject, we as Americans needs to take back America and quit allowing the politicians to run us in the ground as they are doing right now. With the raising cost of gasoline, has started a destructive domino effect that is breaking us down day by day.
As far as this war goes, it is time to bring all of our brave military back home and restrict all flights from any country that may be in question for another possible attack. Let them throw all the sand they want, just as long as they stay over there and we do not supply them with the education to do anymore damage, just growing crops, families and living. So what if they do not like our way of living. We do not impose our lifestyle on them, so they need to get over it.

I love the way you think, JW, but we both know it ain't gonna happen...shore would be nice, though.....

They've been fighting each other, and now us, for at least 5,000 years last count...they ain't about to stop for George, John or Obama....certainly not when they can kill us and make us pay through the nose for the privilege at the same time....

All of a sudden, Windmills (might even be pretty), solar power, and a big Garden in the Backyard make alot more sense than they did, say, 5-7 yrs ago....

Best part is, people would be busy enough taking care of their OWN business, instead of worrying about everybody ELSE'S....definiteky a positive benefit!

10-4 DW45....If we didn't need Middle East oil you would be surprised how quick that mess over there would "straighten" out. Some people are spending too much time hugging trees and protecting owls. That makes 2 groups of stupid people. The tree huggers and the ones that got us over there for oil.Can we all just agree on stopping the killing and using our own resources ? Compromises have to be made.We can't have people getting killed over somebody else's oil when we have so much here.I'm all for the war against terror,I'd rather fight them somewhere else besides over here but I'm thinking controlling their oil is playing a big part in this.I believe the plan was to smooth Iraq's government out and control/protect the oil fields there by giving the U.S. a steady flow of oil.We have oil folks, our oil,and nobody has to die for it.

Hello, JB...you're right, of course, but it just makes too much sense, doesn't it? - not nearly complicated enough!.... :D

It seems to me that the Drill Here/Drill Now crowd forgets that we do actually drill here already. We produce 8 million barrels of oil a day. However, we consume 20 million barrels of oil each day. As our consumption of oil has increased our production of oil has decreased. Fuel efficiency and alternative energies are the cure to our problems. Also, major importer of oil is Canada, followed by Saudi Arabia, and Mexico.

Oil companies own large tracts of land with oil below it, but they do not tap it. Not because of any laws but because they want more land and more oil. They own a lot of land surrounding ANWAR but don't want to drill there. The reason we have a wildlife refugee is because we are causing a mass extinction, and we owe it to Nature, to God, to the future not to kill all of the animals.

We already have offshore drilling and it is in places that are less populated beaches and generally out of the path of hurricanes. What do you think will happen when we put hundred of oil rigs off the coast of Florida?

Another issue: oil companies have become quite adept are reading market forces and limiting their production in times when demand is low to increase the prices. Once the prices get a little higher, the production increases to take advantage of the market. It may be sound business policy for the production of arm chairs and coffee tables, but it seems more devious with a product that we require to get to work and heat our homes. In our "economic downturn" which companies have been posting record profits, quarter after quarter.

Of course the oil companies will tell us that drilling more will help, because they can increase production and keep the oil prices high and make more money. These are also the people who opposed better fuel efficiency in cars and trucks for decades because it will make them more money. Oil companies are not making their choices based on the public, but on profits. They have what you need, partly due to their efforts, and they can get it for you.

I am not sure where I heard this:
President Bush and others have said that Americans need to break their ADDICTION to oil. So the solution to that idea is to produce MORE oil. It's like treating a person addicted to cocaine, by giving them more cocaine.

deaconheel you are correct it is not in the best interest of big oil to produce more oil than the demand calls for that would hurt their bottom end. Like I have said before unchecked greed would have big oil selling any new oil found inshore or offshore to the highest bidder so more drilling here and now would not reduce prices at the pump!

They do it with a straight face, too..

Has anybody saw the pictures going around the Web of the Arctic areas where they want to drill (in the Wildlife areas)?.....

Miles and miles of utter flat desolation, no plants, no life whatsoever....

A buddy of mine was stationed at Anchorage (Elmendorf AFB, I think,...been a while) for 3 yrs...He laughingly told me a few weeks ago that there are too many missile silos "on the plains" for them to drill for oil!

Dunno about that, just a thought...

So to make a long story short....they're not drilling so as to keep the price jacked up and make more money and the Arabs are not producing to jack their price up and people die because of their greed but the government says we're there to help the people. And any hybrid/alternative power cost is beyond the average man's reach so he needs gas, buys gas and keeps the cycle going ?

lol Iran block the strait with what? row boats? their navy wouldn't stand a chance. Jimbob that is not the reason we're not drilling check the facts it's the environmental hippies stopping us. Because of special interest groups such as Sierra Club and many more and the liberals (socialists) themselves we cannot start any more drilling OR build anymore refineries.

Saudi Arabia now has to even refine about 20% of our oil for us because we're barred by laws passed by hippies from building them so we have to outsource that. They even told us about 4 years ago if you (America) would build more refineries you wouldn't be in this mess.

We're blocked from Amrar and drilling off our contintental shelves from the same hippies, and we have enough oil in these places for at least 6 decades of self suffeciency. So if you want less dependancy then write your local hippy 'er I mean congressman.

Iran wouldn't stand a chance in a blockade. They know that but they're just trying to suck us into a confrontation,we're talking about the land of the suicide bomber and if that happened I'll bet some how, some way Israel would get popped in the process and that would be a mess.......We're not drilling so big oil and Saudi Arabia can control the flow and price of oil because that's the way we like it apparently......We are supposed to have the freedom of travel in this country, big interstate highways but you can travel only as much as you can afford the price of gas ruled by people outside this country.Because of the high price of gas they have resticted my freedom, they're controlling my travel in my own country, jacking the price up and making money.I say we increase solar and wind power, drill and anything else that can be done to become independent. As I've said before..wait till people start filling those oil drums...then you're going to hear some hell raised.

Again you have to tell your representative they're the ones saying we can't drill here because we might "harm the environment". This isn't about a company refusing to drill here, they'd love to. It's the environmental whackos standing in the way here. funny how their "alternatives" cost us much more, ethanol isn't making any differences and is costing us at the produce stand. Windmills will never replace coal as a power source you'd have to cover half the US at least in nothing but windmills we don't have that much space.

Drilling our own and refining our own oil would have a huge impact at the pump. Regardless of what the whackos say it wouldn't take a decade for that to make an impact that's a scare tactic. Here's why drilling our own would have a huge impact, 1. the US dollar is weak right now, therefore using it to buy foreign oil is taking more of it to equal their currency. 2. we'd be refining and drilling our own oil so that's obviously a big impact in of itself. 3. another impact it would have is we stop buying from Mexico, Canada, ahab the arab and Venezuala who is purposely charging us more because their dictator is anti US.

Deaconhill, yes we do drill SOME of our own but we're purposely being held away from places there's tons of untapped oil. In fact enough oil to supply OURSELVES for at least 6 decades even the environmental whackos admit to that being the case but say we can't because we might harm the environment. Modern drilling techniques are done in a very safe way how many oil tragedies do you hear coming from the places that do drill? very little if any.
So to answer you we do drill but are being stopped from drilling in alot of places and building more refineries.

I agree with D/H and Axe. Makes no difference where the oil comes from, we the people get the shaft in the end.
