I'm growing old close to where I grew up.The neighborhood sure has changed. When I was a kid nothing was ever locked up.The car,the house...nothing.Nobody had a master lock, security light,or a ring full of keys.If it wasn't yours, you left it alone. The houses were painted, yards mowed, and flowers planted. Most everybody had a small garden behind their house that the whole family worked in.We neighborhood kids played everywhere. In the streets,we moved when one of the few cars would come by,at the parks we played,in the woods. We had to be home for dinner and supper and before dark, that's if all our chores were done.Never any problems,no fears,we all got along.Kids, parents, families,we all got along.......Now most of the houses are rental properties.I've not got a thing against somebody renting but it seems a few try to trash the whole neighborhood. They move in and in a little while instead of a couple people there's 6 and 6 cars.Cars in the driveway, the yard, and the street.Sofas and car seats on the front porch, yard never mowed because they would have to pick the trash up to mow and barking dogs.I guess they look at it as transient housing, they'll stay there till they tear it down and move on to the next one.You always hope for better when the new ones move in but soon you wish the old ones had stayed.I don't know with these old sections of town, how they'll end up.I guess they will keep going down as long as the landlords have a grip on them.

Our country as we know it is on a downward spiral. Gone forever is the life of innocence and leisure. Trust in Jesus. He is your only stable hope.

Have you ever owned a property and rented it to someone that checked out only to have to evict them, repaint, replace the carpet, fix holes in the walls, replace broken windows and the other stuff they destroyed? They left owing you at least 2 mounts rent and thousands in repairs and there is VERY little you can do about it. You have to be pretty well off to keep rental property rented and repaired :-(

cook2712....is any of that a tax write off ? I have seen people completely destroy a house and finally move on but never evicted.

Yes, its a right off but you have to still make those monthly payments if you dont have it paid for and pay for the repairs.

cook2712....I guess I was wrong.I thought the rebuild of a destoryed home would be a write off or at least part of it.I always thought the landlord was looking for someone that could make the rent and didn't care about much more because once it is ready to rent again they let the weeds grow up around it and there it sits with their sign in the front yard. There's about 8 in my neighborhood just sitting and the fools are building more to rent.Bless their hearts they sure know how to built a slum. But in reality it's not the houses that make a slum it's the people.

I wonder why they ARE building slums...no one can afford to live in the ones we have now, and it WILL get worse before it gets better.....I don't know who "THEY" are going to rent all these new Condos to?

DW45....I've thought the same myself. We're getting down to jobs that don't pay that much and condos keep going up.Will unemployment pay for one ?
