GREENSBORO – On the eve of Tuesday’s election, the black members of the Guilford County Board of Education are asking voters to oppose the $457 million in school bonds.
Deena Hayes, a school board member, cited the poor academic performance of black students and the low participation rates of black contractors in past construction bonds as the reasons for their opposition.
"We believe that it is imperative that this community hold this district accountable to our children and remove barriers to equitable access to a quality education," Hayes said at a Monday news conference. "Due to the deplorable educational outcomes of African American students and the unacceptable participation rate of our African American contractors, we will not be supporting the Guilford County school bond."
Amos Quick, another board member, attended the conference along with 11 other contractors and concerned citizens. Walter Childs, the school board’s third black member, was unable to attend because of a previous commitment.
Other groups with membership from the black community have announced their opposition of the bonds, which are expected to build or renovate 18 schools. Those groups include the Black Contractors Guild of Greensboro, Undoing Racism in Guilford County and the George Simkins PAC.

I am glad they oppose the bonds. It is sad they do it for some of the reasons they state. This just further goes to show additional problems we have within our Guilford County School Board.
These board members need to explain why they should not be removed from their seat on the board. I wonder if they would understand a class action reverse racism law suite since they are clearly not representing all of the students of all colors.
Any attorneys available to take this cause?
Maybe we could all learn from a homeless man, his dog, his cat and his rat.
This is an amazing video of one of the homeless in Santa Barbara and his pets. They work State Street every week for donations. The animals are pretty well fed and are mellow. They are a family. The man who owns them rigged a harness up for his cat so she wouldn't have to walk so much (like the dog and himself). At some juncture the rat came along, and so no one wanted to eat anyone else, the rat started riding with the cat and often, on the cat. The dog will stand all day and let you talk to him and admire him for a few chin scratches. The mayor of Santa Barbara filmed this clip and sent it out as a Christmas card.

Greensboro, NC -- Leaders of RF Micro Devices, Inc. announced plans Wednesday to consolidate its production test facilities for high volume cellular products.
The move will affect 80 Greensboro workers. Testing operations will move from Greensboro to Beijing, China.

This is what 7 million plus of your tax dollars buys you. Inevitability. Guildford County and Greensboro City Governments have given over $7 million to RF Micro in incentive packages and for what? Oh yeah I already answered that. The inevitable fact is that American workers cost American companies too much to be competitive in the world market and our government provides additional tax incentives encouraging this type behavior.
