Greensboro, NC -- Leaders of RF Micro Devices, Inc. announced plans Wednesday to consolidate its production test facilities for high volume cellular products.

The move will affect 80 Greensboro workers. Testing operations will move from Greensboro to Beijing, China.

..."While this is a difficult decision because of the negative impact on employees, these actions are necessary to better serve our customers, ensure competitiveness and help position RFMD for long-term sustainable profitability," Bruggeworth said.

There were more words concerning this but at the heart of the matter is the money. The Green and I am not talking about recycling

This is what 7 million plus of your tax dollars buys you. Inevitability. Guildford County and Greensboro City Governments have given over $7 million to RF Micro in incentive packages and for what? Oh yeah I already answered that. The inevitable fact is that American workers cost American companies too much to be competitive in the world market and our government provides additional tax incentives encouraging this type behavior.

The sad commentary on all this is that "we the People"...let Government sell us this bill of goods. Since the early 1980s, we have seen one after another of our industries ship out overseas.

Business blames the "high cost of doing business in America", and "Global Economy".

I can remember when we were all told that the low wage jobs of the cotton mill, and working in tobacco, and the like were jobs that no one wanted to do here. Today there would be lines forming up at the door for those jobs. Guess what, they are all overseas.

We were told that the "high tech" jobs of tomorrow would replace those low end jobs. Yeah...and we swallowed it hook, line and sinker. Now those "High Tech" jobs are gone to Mexico,India, and China.

Do not worry folks,Clinton, and Obama, and the rest are all telling you the same old BLEEP, about how they are going to return those jobs back to home. The truth of it is, about the only jobs we have seen an increase in here are the low wage service jobs, like the fast food joints.

Our government has been bought and sold by the Corporate World. I am thinking that we are one day going to be the third world, unless we can get new people in Washington, and Raleigh to look out for the interests of the citizens.

Forget the Republicans, and Democrats, we need at least two more parties in the political arena to even things up, and cut the odds of the Corporate Dollar buying out our Country.

If it changes today, perhaps by the time my son is ready to retire,my grandchildren will have a good job to go to. In the meantime, we will continue to

We will continue to work at 1960s wages, and pay 2008 prices.

It's kinda dramatic, but I can see myself, retirement age, driving my foreign car, wearing my Taiwanese-made clothes, sitting in my house built by Mexican labor, out of Canadian lunber, burning Iranian Fuel oil, slowly starving because I can't afford South African bananas, or American medicine.....

I really hope I'm wrong about this one...

DW45 your comments are the frightening truth...If it is to change it will because we "citizens" say "No More!"
The only thing we have is our vote...politicians need nothing more from us.
They are bankrolled by special interests of all types.
We could do one thing by insisting on political and election reforms to stop the big spending elections. Limit the time it takes for the election process to work.
I think it requires more than 2 political parties as well, because now the two of them are bought by those that want to control our future.
Lastly flood their mail boxes, and send them e mail, tell them if they vote this or that bill in that you will vote them out of office.
I did that very thing when the McCain-Kennedy Bush Amnesty Bill was being railroaded through congress.
I contacted all my elected officials, and played them the song. They got the message, because they got enough emails telling them the public would not stand for it. That is what we need to do on a regular basis.
DW45, I hope you are wrong !

Why did those fools ever let this happen?...

Sad, isn't it?.....This Country won't go down with the sound of the last shot, it'll go down with the sound of that last Credit Card being swiped...to pay for Heat for your Parents!

HankHill,
The utility rates and taxes in High Point comtinue to rise. The people have all the financial burdens they can bear. They fill it at the gas pumps and each time they pay a utility bill. Senior's budgets on fixed incomes are stretch to the breaking point yet we continue to take money from our electric fund and give it to muti-million dollar companies. This cost is passed on to the citizens in higher rates. I say stop the madness and think of the people. I say no to corporate welfare. If these companies don't want to locate in our area or threaten to leave I say hasta lavista baby go somewhere else and play your extortion game.

I see the we the people as the fools that let this happen.
DW unless somehow as jimbob2 has posted before we the people find a way to come together with promises rather than threats your prognisticating is correct.
gstrader you are correct about using email.
I agree with you all on all counts. The internet can be very powerful and flooding emails is a very loud voice.
Councilman I am glad to know your views. I wish I felt others in your position agreed, but sadly I do not think they do.
Everything should start at home yet the scales are seriously tilted in the other direction and it all comes down to the green

@Hank Hill, Just as the Councilman weighed in with his comments, others will as well. We still are America, the greatest country that ever was!

"We the people", just need to do our job is all. We are the ones to blame, and no one else. We have allowed it to happen by being so tuned into our daily lives that we fell asleep at the switch.

Thank you Councilman Pugh for your comments, it is true, and I recall one such visit to a City Council Meeting when I stood up in defense of our elderly people, and was asked to sit down and shut up!

That was after being recognized by the Chair, so I was not out of Order...but that was in the early 1970s, and it was a different time than the one we have now. In a few years we will all be in that same boat! Thank you for calling attention to it.

SO where do we start? One person at a time...one becomes two, the three,(in this post there are 6!) But it must be more than just letting off steam, we must let our elected people know what we expect, and hold them accountable.

The Whigs of the Revolution were wise and brave people, but they did not leave the cause of freedom up for grabs, that put the matter into their own hands. (for more about that see my blog, about the local Whigs of the 1776-1783 War).

The Whigs were of the opinion that civil service was an honor, and a duty. They served not only without pay, they even spent their own money to serve their country. Not just George Washington, but even down to our local leaders, people like William Bell, first sheriff of Randolph County.
(The first county business, and court
