WE HERE AT FRF ARE TRACKING CURRENT TROPICAL STORM BERTHA. RIGHT NOW IT IS OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ATLANTIC 885 MILES WEST OF THE CAPE VERDE ISLANDS IT IS CURRENTLY MOVING WEST AT A PRETTY GOOD PACE OF 21 MPH. AT THIS TIME IT APPEARS THAT IT WILL MAINTAIN THAT FOR THE NEXT FEW DAYS AND POSSIBLE START TURNING SOME TOWARDS THE NORTH. AT THIS TIME IT ALSO APPERARS THAT RAPID STRENGTHENING IS NOT LIKELY. MAYBE IT WILL TAKE AIM AT OUR COAST IN OUR AREA. THIS WOULD BE WELCOME NEWS IF IT WERE TO MAINTAIN TROPICAL STORM STATUS AND BRING NC SOME MUCH NEEDED RAINS. IT IS CURRENTLY RIDING AROUND A SUB-TROPICAL RIDGE "HIGH PRESSURE" SYSTEM IN THE ATLATIC, THAT IS WHAT IS STEERING IT TO THE WEST NOW, AND GOING TO MAKE IT TURN PROGRESSIVLEY NORTH. WE WILL CONTINUE TO TRACK THIS STORM AND GIVE YOU UPDATES. JUST LIKE IN WINTER, WITH SNOW STORMS. THE TRACK CAN AND WILL CHANGE! STAY TUNED!
WE ALSO WELCOME QUESTIONS, IF YOU HAVE ANY, WE WOULD BE GLAD TO ANSWER THEM IF WE CAN!

Weather
AT THIS TIME WE ARE MONITORING THE POTENTIAL FOR SEVERE STORMS TO DEVELOP AROUND OUR AREA SATURDAY AFTERNOON. THERE WILL BE A TROUGH, OR AN AREA OF LIFT JUST EAST OF THE APPALACHIAN MOUNTAINS. ALSO THE TEMPS WILL BE HIGH, ALONG WITH THE HUMIDITY LEVELS. COMBINE ALL OF THIS TOGETHER, AND YOU HAVE THE INGRIDIENTS FOR SEVERE WEATHER. AT THIS TIME OUR THINKING THAT A LINE OF STORMS WILL DEVELEP SOMEWHERE AROUND 2PM, MAYBE SOONER AROUND WILKESBORO, NORTH INTO VA, THIS LINE WILL GRADUALLY MAKE ITS WAY TO THE EAST. THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS PLACED OUR AREA IN THE "SLIGHT RISK" ZONE FOR SEVERE WEATHER. AT THIS TIME, THE MAIN THREAT APPEARS TO BE LARGE HAIL, AND DAMAGING WINDS. STAY TUNED TO FRF FOR FURTHER UPDATES!
Happy weekend everyone!
we at FRF are monitoring the potential for more storms. At this time, Saturday looks to be BEAUTIFULL!! but for all your outdoor plans on sunday, get then done as early as you can, as there is a potential for storms, SOME SEVERE, to come through our area Sunday afternoon. At this time it looks as though a line of storms will develop in the mountains and foothill sometime late afternoon, and progress to the east through late afternoon and early eve. Just wanted to give everyone a heads up to stay in check with the radar, and forecast for sunday.
ALSO ON A SIDE NOTE. THERE IS A BETTER POTENTIAL FOR SEVERE STORMS ON TUESDAY!!! FRF WILL CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE SITUATION STAY TUNED!!

SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT FOX ROOM FORECASTERS:
AN UPDATE ON THE EVENT THIS WEEKEND 3/4-3/5 AT THIS TIME IT APPEARS THAT THE BIGGEST THREAT WITH THIS SYSTEM APPEARS TO BE SIGNIFICANT RAINFALL. SOME FOLKS COULD SEE MORE THAN 2 INCHES OF RAIN IN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. WE HAVE HADE SOME RECENT RAIN, BUT IN SPOTS THE GROUND IS STILL A BIT HARD, SO THIS WILL CAUSE MAJOR RUNOFF. IF YOU LIVE IN A FLOOD PRONE AREA, NOW IS THE TIME TO THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU CAN DO, IN THE EVENT OF A FLOOD. WE ARE NOT SAYING THERE WILL BE NO STORMS, AND SOME COULD BECOME SEVERE, BUT ONCE AGAIN THE BIGGEST THREAT WITH THIS SYSTEM APPEARS TO BE RAIN! STAY TUNED TO FRF, AND FOX8 FOR FURTHER UPDATES
****REMEMBER: TURN AROUND, DONT DROWN!!!!!!!!!**************
EXCEPT FOR HEAT RELATED FATALITIES, MORE PEOPLE DIE IN FLOODS THAN ANY OTHER WEATHER RELATED EVENT!!!
THINK OF THIS 6 INCHES OF FAST MOVING WATER WILL KNOCK A GROWN MAN TO HIS FEET,
Here we go again!!! another outbreak of severe weather possible this weekend. this is the latest statement from The National Weather Service
http://www.erh.noaa.gov/er/rah/
THE SEVERE THREAT IS EXPECTED TO INCREASE LATE FRIDAY AFTERNOON AND
EVENING AS THE UPPER STORM APPROACHES THE REGION FROM THE WEST...
COMBINING WITH THE RETREATING WARM FRONT AT THE SURFACE. THE SEVERE
THREAT SHOULD THEN WAX FRIDAY NIGHT INTO EARLY SATURDAY AS THE
SURFACE LOW DEEPENS... AND TRACKS NORTHEAST ALONG THE WARM FRONT.
THIS WILL BE FOLLOWED BY THE COLD FRONT... WHICH WILL ACCELERATE
EASTWARD ACROSS THE REGION EARLY SATURDAY.
EVERYONE SHOULD MONITOR THIS POTENTIAL FOR SEVERE WEATHER LATE
FRIDAY INTO EARLY SATURDAY. THIS COULD BE ANOTHER SIGNIFICANT
SEVERE WEATHER OUTBREAK FOR CENTRAL NORTH CAROLINA... INCLUDING
THE POTENTIAL FOR A FEW TORNADOES. LISTEN TO NOAA WEATHER RADIO OR
LOCAL MEDIA FOR THE LATEST INFORMATION FROM THE NATIONAL WEATHER
SERVICE.
This is something that FRF will contunue to monitor. At this time, it doesnt look to be
as severe as the event that it us this past week. But things always change in the world
of weather, So, as always, stay tuned to FRF, and Fox8 for further updates!

A heads up for those who havent heard. There appears to be the possiblity of severe weather moving through the piedmont Tuesday March 4th. At this time, it appears that Strong Storms will move through the Piedmont Starting around 2pm in the west, moving to the east. Some of these storms will be capable of producing Very strong wind gusts, Torrential rain, and Isolated Tornados. Stay Tuned for further updates Here are some examples of the diffrences in watches and warnings:
A severe thunderstorm watch (SAME code: SVA; sometimes referred to as "yellow box" by meteorologists and storm chasers) is issued when weather conditions are favorable for the development of severe thunderstorms
A tornado watch (SAME code: TOA; sometimes referred to as a "red box" by meteorologists and storm chasers) is issued when weather conditions are favorable for the development of severe thunderstorms that are capable of producing tornadoes
A severe thunderstorm warning is issued when trained Skywarn spotters or a Doppler capable weather radar indicate a strong thunderstorm is producing dangerously large hail or high winds, capable of causing significant damage. It does not account for lightning or flooding. A warning must not be confused with a severe thunderstorm watch.
A tornado warning is issued when:

on a side note, the more sun we get tomorow, the more unstable the atmosphere will become, and greatly increasing our chances for severe weather and tornadoes. Be sure to stay tuned to Fox8, and FRF for the latest updates.
Late Week Potential

Weather
AT THIS TIME THERE APPEARS TO BE A CHANCE FOR SOME WINTRY PRECIP LATE THIS WEEK. THERE HAVE BEEN A SERIES OF COLD FRONTS PUSHING THROUGH OUR AREA THIS WEEK. EACH ONE BRINGING WITH IT COLDER AIR. THERE WILL BE ANOTHER TO PASS THROUGH THE AREA THURSDAY. THIS WILL SET UP AN AREA OF HIGH PRESSURE TO OUR NORTH. MEANWHILE MOISTURE WILL BE BUILDING TO OUR SOUTH. AT THIS TIME IT APPEARS THAT ANY WINTRY PRECIP THAT FALLS WILL FALL MAINLY IN THE FORM OF SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN, BEFORE GOING OVER TO RAIN. AS WITH MOST STORMS THAT COME THROUGH OUR AREA TIMING IS EVERYTHING, IF THE PRECIP ARRIVES SOONER, THERE WILL BE MORE ICE.. IF IT GETS IN HERE LATER... THERE WILL BE LESS ICE. THERE ARE MANY OTHER FACTORS THAT GO INTO US GETTING WINTRY PRCIP. STAY TUNED TO FRF AS WE WILL KEEP YOU UPDATED AS CONDITIONS CHANGE. HAVE A GREAT DAY!

FRF UPDATE 2-12-2007..... INTERESTING, NOW THERE IS A WORD THAT WE THOUGHT MAY NOT BE SPOKEN AGAIN THIS YEAR! BUT YES! WE AT FRF HAVE BEEN MONITORING THE POTENTIAL FOR SOME WINTRY STUFF LATE THIS WEEKEND 2-17-2008 - 2-19-2008 THE MODELS HAVE BEEN FLIP FLOPPING BACK AND FORTH FOR THE PAST FEW DAYS FOR GETTING SOME WINTRY STUFF IN HERE DURING THAT TIME FRAME. RIGHT NOW THERE ARE SOME MODELS THAT HINT AT RAIN CHANGING TO SNOW AND ICE!! WITH SOME ACCUMULATIONS IN OUR AREA. AT THIS TIME, THIS WILL HAVE TO BE SOMETHING THAT WILL BE WATCHED, AS WE ALL KNOW THE MODELS CAN AND DO CHANGE!!!!! ONCE AGAIN POTENTIAL FOR A VISIT FROM OL MAN WINTER LATE SUNDAY INTO EARLY NEXT WEEK. HARD TO SAY EXACT TIME, AMOUNTS, OR EXACT PRECIP.. WE AT FRF WILL CONTINUE TO MONITOR THIS DEVELPPING WEATHER SITUATION!!
FRF WEEKLY UPDATE: AT THIS TIME WE ARE REMOVING ANY CHANCE OF WINTRY PRECIP ON THURSDAY, TEMPS LOOK TO BE A BIT TOO WARM FOR THAT AS IT STANDS NOW. THIS WEEK LOOKS TO START A BIT WARM WITH TEMPS NEAR 60 ON TUESDAY BEFORE WE GET A BIT OF RAIN. WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY HAVE TEMPS COOLING A BIT, TO NEAR SEASONAL NORMALS. THURSDAY NIGHT LOOKS TO BRING US SOME RAIN IN, TOTAL RAINFALL AMOUNTS WILL BE NEAR .50 TO .75 INCHES OF RAIN. NOT MUCH, BUT WE WILL TAKE ALL WE CAN GET. WE HAVE A BEAUTIFULL WEEKEND ON TAP WITH TEMPS IN THE MID 50'S FOR SATURDAY AND SUPERBOWL SUNDAY, WITH PARTLY CLOUDY SKIES....
TAKING A PEEK INTO THE LONG RANGE WE SEE A CHANCE FOR SOME WINTRY PRECIP LATER ON NEXT WEEK. MODLES SHOW US RIGHT ON THE BORDERLINE, SO ITS GOING TO BE A CLOSE CALL. WE WILL WRITE A SEPERATE BLOG ON THAT COMING SOON
STAY TUNED TO FRF FOR FURTHER UPDATES
Looking Ahead

Weather
Hello All who may read,
We at FRF are looking ahead in the long range. We are still trying to sniff out our next potential for snow. We hovever sadly say, the models are not looking promising, For snow or ice that is. However there will be a few rain chances coming in, and we really need the moisture so thats a good thing! So here is your weather summary from FRF.
After a few possible flurries in here tomorow (thursday) 1-23-2008, it looks to be VERY VERY COLD for a few days Temps will start to moderate into the mid 50's by weekend. Monday night into tuesday looks to be our next chance for rain.
It seems our pattern will be shifting back and forth, with back and forth cold spells. However the models trend to be cutting storms west of the Appalachian Mountains, which usually bodes rain for us. Hopefully we can get one of these storms to cut up the eastern coast, while the cold air is in place! Stay tuned to our blog. If we start seeing the potential for wintry weather we will let you know. Also Please feel free to leave comments and questions! we welcome them all!

Wintry potential for next week…. At this time the models are developing a storm off our coast in the early Thursday to early Friday time frame. Depending on the track of this storm (as all storms) depends on what type of weather we have. At this time it appears that there is a potential for some ice with this system eary Thursday morning. It also appears that most of the wintry precip at this time will turn over to mainly rain. If we can get enough cold air in here, we still have the chance of seeing a visit from Ol man winter. We are not giving up yet.. And will keep you updated on this developing storm.. Along with others that may come along! Stay tuned to FRF for further updates! One thing is for sure.. there will be plenty of cold air hanging around next weekend through next week. So Keep you fingers crossed for some moisture to get into that. We will keep you updated!!
