once again we here at the FRF are monitoring our next possibility for severe weather. At this time it appears that we may have to deal with another round of severe weather.  This past event of Thursday night will show you, that you need to be ready! ALOT OF THESE TORNADOS FORMED VERY VERY QUICKLY. YOU NEED TO HAVE A SEVERE WEATHER PLAN IN PLACE NOW!! ALWAYS BE READY AND PREPARED! It would be hard to top Thursday Nights event, but at this time it appears that, we will have a similar set up. This is still a few days out, and we still have time to monitor it. stay tuned to FRF we will continue to monitor the situations.

First off, I want to thank all the FRF's and the Fox 8 news team for their dedicated support and coverage during the entire storm time frame. You all deserve some sort of medal or community award! I am sure that your on time info helped make a difference for a lot of people. Only 1 fatality, sad, but wow. It could have been so much worse! You're heroes in my book.
Now, I heard Van make a statement last nite (or was it this morning ;) to the effect that the barometric pressure could/would be lower on Sunday than last nite.... how would that effect the severity of the system coming in? Also, I know we are a few days out, but does the atmosphere look to be as unstable as it was yesterday?

FRF AFTERNOON UPDATE: AT THIS TIME THE SEVERE STORMS FORECAST CENTER HAS PLACED THE "SLIGHT RISK" FOR SEVERE WEATHER ZONE, JUST TO OUR SOUTH. LETS SAY SOUTH OF A LINE FROM US 64. BUT ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT ANYWHERE AROUND THAT, THERE IS A POSSIBLITY FOR SEVERE WEATHER. WE WILL KEEP UP THE GRAPHICS FROM THIS PAST EVENT TO SHOW THAT. AREAS TO OUR NORTH AND WEST WERE HARD HIT AS WELL. SURRY COUNTY HAD 4 TORNADO WARNINGS, AND THEY WERE BARELY IN THE "SLIGHT RISK" ZONE. I KNOW IT WAS ROUGH IN SPOTS, INCLUDING MINE, BUT MOST OF THE AREA, DIDNT EXPERIENCE SEVERE WEATHER. HOWEVER.. THE STORMS THAT DID DEVELOP WERE RARE AND POWERFULL!!
AS FOR SUNDAY. I DONT THINK THAT THE ATMOSPHERE WILL BE AS UNSTABLE. DEWPOINTS AND TEMPS WILL BE LOWER, AND THERE WONT BE AS MUCH SUN TO CAUSE THE INSTABILITY. THIS IS HOW IT LOOKS AT THIS POINT. HOWEVER, THE TRACK OF LOW CAN CHANGE THIS SIGNIFICANTLY.. SO YOU NEED TO STAY TUNED... ALSO THERE WILL BE AMPLE LIFT TO PRODUCE SEVERE WEATHER, NO MATTER THE TEMPS OR THE DEW POINT. BUT, ONCE AGAIN, AT THIS TIME IT DOES OUR ATMOSPHERE LOOKE TO BE MORE STABLE. STATY TUNED TO FRF FOR FURTHER UPDATES, AS THE WEATHER IS FOREVER CHANGING!!

FRF FRIDAY EVE. UPDATE. I AM PLEASED TO SAY THAT IT LOOKS AS THOUGH THE THREAT OF SEVERE WEATHER IS ALOT LOWER THAN IT HAS BEEN IN PREVIOUS MODEL RUNS. AT THIS TIME IT APPEARS THAT WE ACTUALLY MAY HAVE A COLD AIR WEDGE OVER OUR AREA. THIS WILL SET US UP WITH JUST A GOOD OL RAIN, WITH MAYBE SOME IMBEDED THUNDER. THIS IS GOOD NEWS FOR THOSE WHO SUFFRED THROUGH LAST NIGHTS SEVERE WEATHER, WE ARE PRAYING FOR YOU. AS ALWAYS, THINGS CAN AND DO CHANGE, SO BE SURE TO STAY HERE FOR FURTHER UPDATES FROM FRF. HAVE A GREAT DAY!

As of 11:50 pm 5/9/08... in Burlington NC we had a brief but heavy shower of pea sized hail and some very rotational winds. Now seems to be all rain.

I live in the Lawndale/Old Battleground area and we were riveted to Fox 8 during the ordeal. We got the kids (and the dogs) into the storage room just before the heavy stuff hit. The coverage was excellent.

We will be tuned in tomorrow.

PS: "a lot" is/are two words. ;)

quick early am update!! at this time the severe storms forecast center has placed central NC into the "slight risk" zone. it almost feels like tracking a winter storm, as the track of the storm will greatly determine the risk of severe storms in this area. REMEMBER THURSDAY NIGHT WE WERE IN "SLIGHT RISK" ZONE AND THAT MEANS THAT THERE IS A 25% CHANCE THAT ANYWHERE WITHIN 25 MILES OF YOU COULD SEE A SEVERE STORM. AT THIS TIME THE FRF IS TRACKING THE LOW.. AND IT DOES APPEAR AS IT MAY SLIDE JUST A BIT FURTHER TO THE NORTH... THE MODELS CAN AND DO CHANGE.. WE ALSO NEED A STRONGER HIGH TO THE NORTH, TO SEND IN SOME COOLER AIR TO STABLIZE THE ATMOSPHERE... ANYWHERE SOUTH OF WEDGE IS GOING TO HAVE A BETTER CHANCE AT SEEING SEVERE WEATHER. WE HERE AT FRF WILL CONTINUE TO MONITER THE TRACK OF THE LOW, AND THE POTENTIAL FOR SEVERE WEATHER.. AGAIN THE RISK IS A BIT HIGHER THAN IT WAS IN EARLIER RUNS.. STAY TUNED TO FRF FOR FURTHER UPDATES!

FRF EVENING UPDATE:
OUTSIDE OF JUST SOME SPOTTY SEVERE WEATHER, WE LOOK TO BE OK. THERE SITLL COULD BE SOME RAIN AROUND, WITH SOME EMBEDED THUNDER. WE HERE AT FRF ARE MORE WORRIED ABOUT TOMOROWS WIND EVENT THAN THE STORMS. AS OF NOW, IT LOOKS AS THOUGH THE WINDS COULD GUST TO NEAR 50, COMBINE THAT WITH ALL THE RAIN WE HAVE HAD LATELY, AND THERE WILL MORE THAN LIKELY BE SOME TREES THAT WILL COME DOWN. STAY TUNED HERE FOR FUTHER UPDATES!
