Congratulations are due to the fine men and women of the Greensboro Police Department.
Members of our community had accused them of police brutality, following the recent death of Paul Edward Thompson. In attempting to apprehend Mr. Thompson following a traffic stop, tasers and mace was used. Thompson shortly began to experience breathing difficulty, and he unfortunately died just a few days later.

The story was originally reported by FOX 8 here...

According to the police report, during the altercation, Mr. Thompson refused to spit out a suspicious white substance which he was trying to swallow.  Following a state autopsy report, that substance was determined to be cocaine, which resulted in Mr. Thompson's death by acute cocaine poisoning.

Had Mr. Thompson not swallowed such a large amount of cocaine, he in all likelyhood would still be alive today.  His death was preventable, not by GPD, but rather by his own hand.

This is a tragic story, and I am not attempting to make light of it.  I can appreciate the pain that Mr. Thompson's family and loved ones must feel after his death.  But I did feel compelled to make this recent development, which clears our men and women of the Greensboro Police Dept., known to all who may read this.  Perhaps next time we should not be so quick to judge those who do a job that most of us find too difficult or distasteful.  Nor should we deny these men and women the tools needed to do that job.

...featured on the main page of the Political blogs?

Seriously, I'm tired of looking at the same 2 pics of Obama for months now.  No offense to Weaver, but I'm sick of it.

At the very least, give equal time to his opponent, McCain.  Or even better, how about some candid shots of local/state candidates?

Featuring Obama for so long is beginning to look like a tacit, subtle, yet ongoing endorsement of him.

He has an extremely poor Senate record.  Obama only seems to show up to vote for extremely liberal bills.  He is rated the "Most Liberal" Senator in Congress. He has cast over 100 "Present" votes, most notably on the only significant abortion bill to come up during his term, simply to avoid backlash from his constituents and supporters.  He is extremely partisan.  He does not seem to know how to reach across the aisle to foster bi-partisan cooperation.  He voted against the confirmation of both Sam Alito and John Roberts as Chief Justice.  He says he will be a "bridge-builder" between the two sides of the Senate aisle, but has done nothing to support this claim.  I fear the liberal bias which he could impart onto the Supreme Court, via nominations of Justices who do not share my views.  He has near 100% opposition to our cherished 2nd Amendment rights.

He supports a socialist and entitlement agenda.  He wants to force unnatural distribution of wealth, hinder entreprenuralism and capitalism, and accuses businesses who make a profit as if doing so is an unhealthy state for our economy.  While at the same time, he wants to further the Democratic strategy of continuing the cycle of poverty and reliance on government handouts.

He calls for higher taxes and has...
- voted against extending Bush's tax cuts on capital gains and dividends
- voted against permanently repealing the "Death Tax"
- voted against the "bankruptcy abuse" bill
- voted against CAFTA
- opposes NAFTA, and threatens to end it
- opposes the privatization of Social Security
- has proposed a $4k annual tax break to every single college student. This one  program alone would cost taxpayers about $78 billion annually
- calls for universal health care, and yet has no plan to pay for it

He calls for an immediate withdrawal from Iraq, failing to acknowledge either that we are making progress in our war against terrorism, or the need to maintain a strong U.S. presence in Iraq following our retreat.  Frankly, this is a defeatist view, and someone who supports capitulization cannot be a strong leader of our nation's forces.

He has no credentials regarding foreign policy.  He calls for negotiations with those who have threatened Americans.  He is the favored candidate of Hamas, Iran, and basically the entire so-called "Axis of Evil".

I worry about what true agenda he may actually have if elected.  He's shown poor judgement in the past with those whom he associates with.
- Rev. Wright
- James Meeks

- Tony Rezco
- William Ayers
- Michelle Obama
- connections with the Nation of Islam
- connections with Marxist supporters of Che Gueverra
- connections with the Palestinian Liberation Organization

As a white male, living in a mostly rural and conservative area, I feel that Obama does not have my interests at heart.  He has correctly been tagged as an "elitist"...one who is out of touch with a vast segment of this nation.  The policies he proposes are not in line with my views on what is best for me, my neighbors, nor our country.  He believes in forced charity, via government programs, rather than from the goodness of Americans.  And yet, according to his family's tax records, they did not give freely of their personal income to help their fellow man.  The Obama family's charitable gifts fall well below average...around a dismal 1% of annual income, up until 2006, at which point it seemed possible that he could be a potential candidate for President.

And I just do not trust the man. I do not think he is a man of strong character.  I think he's a liar.  For a man as eloquent as himself, he stumbles, stutters, and mumbles in his speeches when forced to deviate from his script or forced off "message".  He has had to "explain" his words, and the words of his supporters and associates way too many times for one with as little time in the media spotlight.  It's not like he's got a 30 year political career that is being picked apart.  It seems that every week, there is another "explanation" by him, a claim that he was mis-quoted,  that he didn't mean something that way...and he's only been in the national political spotlight for 4 years.

John McCain may not be my ideal candidate.  I do not agree with everything he has said, however, he is at least acceptable to me.  Furthermore, I feel that he is much more trustworth, and no one can question his patriotism and devotion to country and a strong military.  And I see the value in voting for an acceptable candidate as a means and a way to keep a wholly undesireable one out of the office.

By now, most here in the Triad, and countless others nationwide, are aware that the GSO Police Department arrested Alexander "Pop" Kohanowich, 78, outside the "town-hall meeting" on March 26th by Presidental candidate, Barack Obama.  Mr. Kohanowich was charged that day with assualting a police officer.

As always, there are two sides to every story.  FOX8 owes it to our community to announce that according to witnesses, the story may not have been exactly as Mr. Kohanowich presented in his most "human" way.  On April 10th, the GSO Police Dept. released a press statement which contradicts statements made by Mr. Kohanowich, corroborated by eyewitness accounts, and now the matter is being left to the court.

FOX8...I feel that in the interest of fair and transparent journalism, you owe your viewers and web visitors the entire story.  Several harsh comments, directed to Officer L.D. Prescod, and the GSO Police Dept. in general, were made based only on partial and biased information given by the "victim".  Assuming this new information is true, it appears that a restrained and patient Officer Prescod gave a beligerent Mr. Kohanowich ample opportunity to comply with his directives.  And only after being "shoved", did he conduct a professional arrest, with no futher incident.

I say job well done to Officer Prescod and the men and women of the Greensboro Police Department.

A new blogger, Roxyavalon, apparently has removed all of her posts, and along with them our comments/discussions with her.  I am posting this in the "Political" section, as that is where her posts were, and the same respondents may see this here.

Her profile  now says...

"oops, trukman told me that this is a site for North Carolina, I'm in Oregon. Grave mistake made cause I'm not PC savvy. So Sorry, I'm canceling this blog as soon as I can. Thanks trukman, too bad, it was good fun."

I'm positive that "trukman" is me,  Her comments seemed to be a plea for help, or at least an attempt at reaching out to change some issues which were affecting her.   I did ask her if she was aware that this was a NC-based board, when she was commenting on her difficulties in OR, and remarked that if she desired change, that it began at home, and her local area might be more readily available to assist.

Now she's gone and removed all of her posts.  And I'm left to wonder if I said something wrong, or if I'm simply reading too much into things.

I'm a nearly life-long resident of the area. I've seen many changes, some good...some not so good. But this has allowed me the opportunity to form strong opinions. Thanks to FOX8 for giving me a chance to share these with you.
