I try to make a list and stick to it. Also, the store brands don't taste as bad as I thought they did! Sending my husband to the store is my best saving method, because He comes home with only the bare necessities.

I too have tried the Store Brands as well as using coupons and the store sales. In the past I did not clip coupons or pay attention to store advertised sales. But now before I go to the grocery store I sit down and compare which coupons I have and the store adv. sales and get the most for my money. Not to mention we simply do not eat out anymore.

As far as shopping other than for food, such as clothes, shoes and recreational item, we just don't do it. We have plenty of clothes and shoes to last a while so unless it is a necessity we just don't purchase it.

We are not going to go anywhere for vacation this year we are going to stay at home and enjoy what we have been blessed with already.

As we learn to live on less and find we have any extra left over we save it for tougher times that are sure to be coming our way.

Hanging Rock State Park has camping facilities and cabins, where you can go inexpensively for vacation. I'm hitting the smaller farmer's markets and Costco and Sam's. I have no reason to shop the retail grocery stores anymore. I make my own wet dog food, though I've been doing that since the gluten scare a year and a half ago.

Honestly, we haven't changed a thing. My spouse and I have always been smart about money and we are taking advantage of the fact that retailers are having a hard time and lowering prices. We just built and moved into our dream home in January. The sales have been an added bonus.
We don't love the gas prices so we just plan a bit more and do more in one errand trip. Coupons for something already on the list is just smart. We look at it like it is a game.

Hi all!
I check for coupons and sales more. I found that if you go to alot of these stores that are online (food lion for one!) you get even more coupons online to print and redeem.

How have my shopping habits changed... in every way possible! I started a small garden to supplement our meals. I buy from a local farmer's market on the weekends, only 2 blocks away - thank heavens - or I wouldn't go due to gas cost. I buy mostly store brands and get all my cleaning products at the local dollar store. Luckily we have an Aldi's in our town - *way* cheaper than the local "Wally World" and grocery store. It has cut my grocery bill almost in half. Also I am lucky to have a Merita bread store nearby - $.89 as opposed to $2.69. Most things though, if not necessary, are cast by the wayside. No vacation this year. Not even visiting the relatives as often. Gone are the days of "spur of the moment" buying, much less non-essential clothes and shoes. I dread to think what Christmas is gonna be like this year if things don't get any better.

As much as I love the better shopping environment at the nicer grocery stores, I find myself shopping more at wally's world (Walmart, lol)and only buying what my husband and I can eat in a week versus filling up the freezer. I also have started again going to the discount bread stores as I used to do when we were first married to save money. I can still buy most of the breads we like, but at 1/2 or more of the cost even at Wally's
