Where in the Piedmont do you dread driving?   Whether because of commercial or residential growth, there are many locations that can make even the best driver nervous.

Greensboro's transportation department has a long list of improvements it wants to make.  High on the list is widening Horse Pen Creek Road near Bryan Parkway, Battleground Avenue and New Garden Road.

Will this be as painful for Greensboro drivers as, say, plans to improve Business 40 in downtown Winston-Salem?

Give us your two cents.

Kernersville. No lie. "Let's quintuple the population and put a strip mall on every corner but not widen any roads."

God forbid you need to get somewhere on Sat. morning. Wherever you try to go, Bud and Shirley are in the '65 Dodge pickup doing 20-per on the way to Bojangles. Or, there's always some mosey-a-thon for Autistic Soccer Moms for Darfur on every main artery.

I have not ventured much out of High Point but traffic on Eastchester in the afternoon is busy. I need to know where else there is traffic. I must say living here the amount of traffic is light compared to New York City. It was a traffic nightmare!

Hanes Mall Boulevard! Stratford Road...I mean you have to hire police officers to control traffic during lunch! Reynolda Road! Highway 52 South in the mornings and North in the evenings! I don't think there is anywhere in Winston Salem that traffic is not bad. Like flatch said...they loveeeeee to build more shops and stores..but lack in the planning of how all of those new customers will affect traffic. I have to agree with them about Kernersville...the town has more than doubled in the last few years...and roads remain the same.

In comparison to California (where I am from), the roads in the Piedmont are not a problem. Back in San Francisco, a driver would expect to tack on at least an addition 30 minutes to the commute to anticipate congestion on the busy roads.
Here in the Piedmont, we are fortunate that the traffic runs fairly smoothly. Sure, there are tie-ups here and there but I am not going to complain. Nothing is worse than bumper to bumper traffic during rush hour in downtown SF. Now that is frustrating!

Guilford College and West Market in Greensboro, especially when the train comes through. Those driving through there ignore the do not block intersection signs making it nearly impossible to get out of the side streets and businesses in that area. Speeding along Guilford College is unreal with not a police officer in sight

The worse traffic is on the streets, roads, and highways!!! LOL!!! No, seriously, it seems that a lot of people never learned to drive! I try not to complain though, because my daughter had a big truck "run over the top of the left rear end of her car" in NYC!!! He was in the "going straight" lane, and decided at the last minute to "turn left"!!! Yep, turned left right over the top of the backend of her "bright yellow car"!!! Perhaps we don't have it so badly???

There was the report from last year that I think the Insurance companies put out together that said that Greensboro is the worst city in the US to drive in.

We're #1! We're #1!

I agree with FarmTruk that Wendover Ave. near I-40 is pretty bad. Wendover Ave. is the only place I have ever had an accident. (That is if you don't count the incident in my driveway lol!) Seaangel, my accident was similiar to your daughter's only the man driving was in the turning lane waiting to make a left turn. I guess he got tired of waiting because he made a left turn in front of me or I guess you could say beside me, because he went up over the top of the hood of the car. I was driving, but it was my husband's precious Iroc-Z that I was driving. Needless to say, that was not a good day!

Poor HSM, I "feel his pain" (if you've seen the photo on my site of my "sweet RS", LOL). JQP, I don't doubt that Greensboro has the dubious "honor" of being "the worse city in the US to drive in"! It is a shame to me that we do not prepare our young drivers any better than the "required" course that they must take!!! Taking a test doesn't mean that you know how to drive!!!
