Byrd's Eye View

For the first primary vote in my memory, North Carolina's delegates MIGHT actually matter.

After Pennsylvania's primaries on April 22, the Old North State has the most delegates of any state left to have a primary or caucus, (134 for Democrats and 69 for Republicans), on May 6th.

So I'm curious... are you planning on voting in the North Carolina primaries?  Do you feel our state will have a notable impact on the nominees for the 2008 Presidential election?

Yes, my wife and I will be voting in the primary, (for only the 2nd time in my life and the first time in hers) Along with the presidential race, there are many other local offices that are going to be doing their primaries on that day. Governor, LT. Governor and many congressional districts across the piedmont-triad are holding their primaries that day. Also many mayoral and city councils are going to be narrowing their fields that day. Just remember that the last day to register is April 11. If you have moved in the last two years (like me) make sure your info is up to date. Most of the registration can be done on-line at http://www.sboe.state.nc.us/

I will definitely be voting. I am sure my husband will be too since he works at the voting precinct. Thanks for that information, Burlington Rocker. My daughter turns 18 in May and she will need to register so she can vote in Nov. I will keep that information for her.

That's terrific information!

I get so wrapped up in national politics, I forget that our local positions are also up for grabs. I also learned not long ago that it is LOCAL politics that have the most impact on an individual's day-to-day life -- especially those county commissioner seats.

There is something intoxicating about a Presidential campaign though...

My losing primary votes since I was given the vote (in years I was given a choice):

1988: Jack Kemp
1992: Pat Buchanan
1996: Pat Buchanan
2000: Steve Forbes

I supported Duncan Hunter... but now I am left with no choice. Since the primary on the GOP side most likely will not matter, I may write-in myself... or General Greene.

Ms. Byrd: I will vote in the primary even though I do not believe it will make much difference. Also, someone famous (I cannot recall who it was at the moment) once said that all politics is local.

Yes my family and i will be voting in the upcoming primary. It is this writers opinion that our (the people of north carolina voices do count.) you here people all the time complain about the people who are in office but when asked who they voted for the answer is almost always the same oh!I didn't vote. so lets get out there and vote instead of complaining. if you don"t vote then in my opinion you don"t have a complaint.

Of course I'll be voting in the Primary. I vote any time my polling place is open. I feel it's not only my right, but my duty, as an American.

Let's see ... I'm registered republican so it won't make a difference in the presidential primaries. I was thinking about napping or washing the dog that day.

I posted a short blog on this very topic.

Don't you wonder why it is that all the primaries are held at different times? I really believe they should all be held on the same day as the November elections are, so as not to sway the outcome. Republicans in NC honestly do not have a voice this time, we were told by a handful of other states who our nominee is. Totally not cool and I find it unAmerican.

I love the weather. I love animals. I think that "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" "Bones" and "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip" ROCK. As music goes: Yo-Yo Ma, Daughtry, Allyson Krauss (and Union Station), Black Eyed Peas, most any John Williams soundtrack (especially Memoirs of a Geisha and Harry Potter), Wagner, Handel, Stevie Nicks, Bonnie Raitt, and I could go on and on.
