Where do you find all those Folks? I'm asked that question a lot. We’ve worn out a lot of cars in the past twenty years. It takes a lot of driving to go out capture the “Roy’s Folks” segments Roy Ackland and I produce for Fox8. We’ve found some in remote locations and others right in our own back yard but rarely do we find a cluster of “Folks” in one spot. Sure you can watch the stories here on Fox8, but if you wanted to meet many of these people, you would have to do a lot of driving yourself. That’s why six years ago we decided to try and get some of them together for a unique event we call the “Roy’s Folks Crafts Fair.”

This year’s event promises to be bigger and better than ever. Mark your calendar for Friday November 16th. Meet us at Providence Place in High Point.

You'll get a chance to meet a bunch of the people we've featured over the years

and see them and their work in person.  Below are a few screen grabs from video shot at previous events.

Above Jeffrey Jobe works on his gold and silver jewelry.

Here Paulette Mangum displays her unique creations.

Visiting with Hilda McKnight and checking out her art and Moravian Stars.

Curtis Cecil demonstrates his glass blowing skills.

Admiring the carved eggs of Dave Teachout.

This is just a tiny sample of what you will see at the Craft fair. So while Roy and I have to drive all over creation to find Roy's Folks, you can find a whole bunch of them all in one place on November 16th. In coming days I'll post more about the event. Keep checking back.

Who am I? Well, I'm a North Carolina native. I've been married for twenty-five years to a wonderful woman who is the mother of my energetic twelve-year-old son. He keeps me young. I have been involved with broadcasting nearly all of my life. My television career began in the late 1970's in Charlotte. Then I was a reporter/photog, better known in the business as a "one-man band." Over the years I've done many different things but I never found my niche until in 1988 when I was asked to shoot and produce a new series here at Fox8. "Roy’s Folks" was born that year and ever since it's been my job to find interesting people and tell their stories. You may not know me because Roy Ackland is the guy in front of the camera and I'm behind it. In fact many people only know me as "the guy who rides with Roy." And so I am. It's been a great ride.
