I have recieved numerous complaints from people living adjacent to this campsite and business owners in the area. They are plagued with panhandling, their property being stolen, and shoplifing. Many residents are afraid of the people in the camp and are some considering moving themselves. I would be the first to extend a helping hand but when these people would rather drink, drug and steal rather than work there's not much you can do.
In the camp I observed drugs, alcohol, and an array merchandise shoplifted from various stores in the area. One evening I was approched by one of the camp residents and offered merchandise taken from Wal-Mart, Dollar General and Food Lion. I also obsreved one person standing by a gas pump at Raceway purchasing gas at a discount for customers with a stolen credit card.
These people have chosen their way of life and have no intentions of changing. They refuse help from shelters because the drugs and alcohol would not be tolerated . If they want help ...help is available. They cannot be allowed to disrupt the lives of law abiding, hard working citizens and business owners.
We are trying hard to make South High Point a better place for business to thrive and people to live. This camp and the activities of it's residents does not fit in big picture.
