Digital TV Transition Program to Air

This Saturday night, April 19th, FOX8 will broadcast a 30 minute program on the digital transition at 7:30. If you have any questions about the upcoming transition from analog to digital TV, you will want to check this program out.

From time to time until the transition, FOX8 will be providing these long from programs as well as reports during the newscasts to keep you up to date with the latest on the transition. And of course, I will be happy to answer any questions here you might have about the transition as well if you can't wait until we air something, so feel free to ask!

I'm still unsure about how many channels I will be able to pick up with "rabbit ears" down here in Asheboro. Surely Ch. 2 and 8, but I mostly get clearer Raleigh/Durham stations now with my indoor antenna. Might just junk the TV and go with radio. Advice?

Also, what will the old analog TV signals be used for after the switch?

From Asheboro with rabbit ears, you should be able to WFMY, WGHP, WGWC, WMYV, WXLV and WLXI with no problems. WXII and WUNL are located on Sauratown Mt and you may have trouble with them. WGPX is located at Reidsville and with rabbit ears, more than likely you will not receive them. You may also get WUNC as well since they are at Carrboro and has a good signal in this direction. From Raleigh, you would have the best chance for WTVD. The rest, you may or may not since they will stay in the UHF range and the tower is located east of Raleigh.

Channels 52-69 have already been auctioned off to WI-FI providers and for First Responders around the country. They are just waiting for the TV stations to vacate so they can begin to use the old TV channels.

SmokyBurgess, If you are going to listen to radio in Asheboro, you'd better have a real good antenna. Not much hope if you can't pick up more than the local Asheboro stations. Not really much in Asheboro to listen to. The full time AM on 1260 khz seems to always have either the swap shop or American Legion baseball on most of the time. When they aren't airing their "premium programming" they play country music. Country music on AM is certainly a treat. Then there's the daytimer WZOO on 710 khz with a format I call "gut gospel", its quite a treat for the average listener. Of course WZOO seems to be off the air more often than they're on. I'm saving the best for last, Joy FM, I can't remember the exact calls and I think they're found at 89.9 mhz. The play the best in southern gospel. Oh, don't want to leave out WKRR Rock 92 at 92.3 mhz, they pretend to be a Greensboro station but are actually licensed to Asheboro, not bad if you enjoy enjoy hearing the same burnt out classic rock music from the last 40+ years. I run the TV transmitters that allows everyone to see all of the programs and news on FOX8. I like to say, if you see a good picture and hear good sound, I am not working very hard, but if you see or hear static, I am working very hard!
