After seeing Chad Tucker's great piece on "How Trustworthy Are Temperature Signs?" this morning, started thinking about this.

I know my mom told me yesterday that her car's thermometer said 119 when she got in after work. It definitely was not 119 (thankfully!). So, if anyone else sees an outrageous thermometer reading (car, bank, etc), take a pic and post it!

Who knows, I might even have a weather-related prize for whoever post the most outrageous temperature before, lets say, 7pm on Friday.

Of course this holds no meteorological value, but it should be good for a laugh especially on a day where temperatures are yet again looking to be record-breaking!

Happy thermometer hunting, and stay cool!

I took a photo of the Walgreens thermometer sign and it read 506 degrees. I emailed it to Van and he featured it during the weather segment one night.

This may not be what you are looking for, but those who are and who aspire to be TV weather peeps may like it:

I went to see my buddy in Wyoming in the summer of '86. The TV news there was low budget and one station had a weather map that used Lee Press-On graphics. So, at air time in front of his weather map, the man said, 'OK, it's 82 in Casper, 83 in Cheyenne, and 18 in Lander/Riverton...heh heh, I think that's a mistake...'

That's why them computers is fan-tastic.

Not referring to the "temperature signs", but the thermometer inside of a car is usually accurate, if it is reading the temp "inside the car" (not outside). I saw the "laser thermometer" piece done on Fox8 the other day, where it said on a roof it was something like 163 degrees, and inside of a woman's car when she opened the door to get in 119.3 degrees. So, I probably really was that hot inside the other lady's car! GOOD WORK, CINDYKAY54!!!!!!!

Having recently graduated from Mississippi State University with a degree in Broadcast Meteorology, I am now a young meteorologist on the hunt for a job! In the summer of 2006 I had an internship here at Fox 8. I grew up in this area and graduated from Ledford High School in 2003, and have been in Mississippi for the past 4 years.
