Circle your calendars and set the DVR/Tivo/VCR for Friday, April 18. That will be the FOX8 Sports Director Rich Brenner anchors his last show.

I have known Rich since 1992 when I first moved to then WGHPiedmont8. Rich has been at FOX8 for as long as I was a TV news producer. He is more than a co-worker. Rich is a friend and a person whose opinion I highly respect.

This blog was started not to tell my experiences with Rich, but for viewers to share their stories, opinions and well wishes.

Rich Brenner was reporting sports in this area when I was playing in high school and years later as I now cover sports he is still at it. There is one thing that has remained the same through all these years, Rich Brenner is a legend in his on mind. I put him in the same category with Mike Hogwood and Tally Carr (pre-DUI), his on air stuff is alright (when I can concentrate on what he's saying wihtout looking at that crazy right hand of his doing the "Thunb Point" every other word. In person he has not disappointed, full of himself and deeming you useless unless he needs something from you. It would be different if all the local anchors were this way but they're not. I hope they give Dave Goren And Kevin Connolly (who hopefully will be the new Sports Director) the same praise when they go away, Rich could learn alot from these two. Through all my feelings about Ole' Big Boy, I do want to wish him good health, I know he's been going thru some things adn no matter what I hope he gets over it all.

Well I wish you the best but I must say your commentary will not be missed by me your response to the lynching Tiger Woods comment was why off base for a sportscaster in my opinion. But is it true you are only retiring because you fear the new owners of the station may change the health package you now have with the current owners? And if so are you a conservative republican, commentate on that for me before you go! Universal health care for all!!!

Regardless of the reasons for your retirement, which are no one elses business, I wish the best for you. I have enjoyed watching you and the way you covered sports. I have agreed with you concerning your commentaries and you opinions about athletes and owners etc.
There are very few people in the media who will tell it like it needs to be said. I called you many many years ago to settle an argument between myself and a co-worker about who the manager of the Braves was before Bobby Cox. You admitted to me that you did not know and asked if I could hold for a few seconds, upon getting back to me you called the Braves office in Atlanta to find out who it was because you were curiuos too. Ignore any negative or political BLEEP that some idiot may post. Enjoy your retirement, you will be missed.

Rich...you are one Class Act! You will be missed....so be sure to visit as often as possible. Find things to do so you don't drive Judy nuts!! LOL! Spend a lot of time teaching Tanner the finer points of sports. Enjoy your well deserved retirement!

The best of luck to you, Rich. It seems I remember you at another station a longgggggggg time ago. Maybe WITN Washington WNCT Greenville WRAL Raleigh, or WTVD Durham. We were living in Goldsboro then, and when we moved here in early 90's, there you were. It was good to see a familiar face on TV.

Thank you Rich for having the gonads to say what you feel, whether or not others agreed with you. Commentaries will be missed. Seem to be a thing of the past as people in the spot light today want to be to politically correct.
Always appreciated you calling it the way you saw it, whether I agreed or not.
Life is just to short....

Axe I just read your posts. Why? What difference does any of that make? Is it your concern or your business?
