Former Winston-Salem city council member Vernon Robinson ran for U.S. House of Representatives in the last two elections. He lost by a 2-to-1 margin against democrat incumbent Rep. Brad Miller (13th District) in 2006. Two years earlier, he lost to fellow republican Virginia Foxx in a runoff for the 5th District opening created when Richard Burr ran for (and won) the race for U.S. Senate.

Since his loss to Miller, Mr. Robinson has remained uncharacteristically quiet. His Web site http://www.vernonrobinson.com/ currently touts Ron Paul's presidential candidacy.

Whether you agreed with his politics or not, Robinson took a scorched earth approach to campaigning. His media campaigns were almost always met with a "what is he claiming now?" curiosity, a very effective advertising method. His ads always made for good theatre.

It's hard to believe after Robinson dropped off the political radar after two such high-profile campaigns. Maybe he'll show up this week, now that candidates for political offices have begun filing for races. Let's hope so, if only for entertainment purposes.

Mr. Robinson, we would love to have you join the MyFoxWGHP.com Blog community. I think you could provide interesting insight and original content on what's going to be an interesting year in American politics.

I truly want to hear from Mr. Robinson. We are all about adding different voices to this forum. Even your voice, Axekick, although your recent post makes me wonder. The blog is about a voice that hasn't been heard from so far this year. Whether you agree with his politics or not, Robinson runs provocative campaigns and successfully raises the money to pay for them.

Alan, do you really want to hear from Mr. Robinson for entertainment value? Need to get the old ratings up? Good ole media...

Yes, I want to hear from Mr. Robinson. I am interested in his point of view. More than entertaining, I believe his insight will add an important voice among our blog community. Yes, I think his opinions will attract more bloggers.

I would very much like to hear what Mr. Robinson has to say.

He has shown a lot of RAW TRUTH in the past via media.

I do not seek Robinson out for entertainment. I appreciate his views and his ability to get the truth out LOUD & CLEAR.

I admire what Robinson stood for in past elections.

It's unfortunate that some voters couldn't fathom what Robinson stood for. It's unfortunate that some voters choose to be duped by the other candidates.

YES - get Robinson on the blog - it would be wonderful to hear from him again.

You know why your comment seems so demeaning Axe? I don't think you have a clue what is going on in your own community. In fact, I think you'd like to keep us white folk away. Which makes you a race baiter once again. Do you want to place a second promise to your family?

You want demeaning you can find it in Alan's original post." Let's hope so, if only for entertainment purposes." And I know the claim will be made that he didn't mean it that way but I don't buy it, I have the clue and you don't like it many of you don't like it but there is not a thing you can do about it! I have said many times that the truth only upsets those guilty of that truth and here NINE days after my comment it stills bothers you it bothers you because your mindset has been brought to light. I have no desire to keep white people away there are many white people I admire but Alan’s post was out of line the moment he made the above comment it’s a shame sometimes we can be on the right track and our subconscious comes out and really shows true self. As far as a second promise to my family you are not mentally, physically, or intellectually equipped to deal with me so let it go!

Whether you agree with Mr. Robinson's political views or not, he does advance the debate. He engages supporters and opponents alike. That's what I meant by using the "entertaining purposes." It is not a claim, it is my point of view.

Exactly Alan. He is politically polarizing

Vernon ran a campaign for the fifth district and initially projected himself as a white redneck, with the same values as those who he hoped to represent. Didn't he also place huge granite slabs on city property and then call a press conference to make sure everybody saw him? He hasn't won for a reason. He's been exposed for what he is, a pundit. If you feel you need a pundit, then bring him on. I personally don't see it.

He was also lambasted in the Bush circles because he wouldn't cowtail to what some refer to as "a failed second experiment".

Just for proof, here is an article from 2004 from some defunct rag in Phoenix nontheless.

"Robinson, on the other hand, has courted national attention from the very beginning. Were he to prevail, Robinson would become the first African-American Republican to serve in congress since the retirement of J.C. Watts. Contributors to popular, conservative publications such as ChronWatch, NewsMax, and GOPUSA point to the Winston-Salem city councilman as the next generation of black conservative. Using this image, Robinson has raised and spent over two million dollars—amassing a king’s ransom from out-of-state donors.

The Robinson campaign is best characterized as highly negative. The councilman joined Rep. Tom Tancredo of Colorado in criticizing President George W. Bush on immigration policy. Robinson even stated that the Republican Party was to blame for America’s immigration crisis. The rhetoric was so hot that former U.S. Rep. Jack Kemp withdrew his endorsement of Robinson. It was later reported by NCRumors.com that the Bush campaign quietly informed Robinson’s staff to resign for the sake of their careers.

That said, the councilman’s attacks have not been confined to excoriating the Bush administration. He has often portrayed his competitors as dishonest or liberal. No love is lost between Robinson and his defeated opponents. Former candidate Nathan Tabor, a Christian conservative, was labeled as pro-abortion and pro-gay by the Robi

Are you saying that is the only reason I like him?

No, I wasn't aware that you do. I guess you are aware that I think he is either a brilliant strategist, or a nut. When he was an alderman, before they changed the name, I ran a children's charity (don't ask). Each year most of the council members came out and helped, as it helped the communities affected. Vernon showed up several times, but only for the photo op....never for the work. You can tell a lot about how much one does for their community, doing volunteer work. That's where I got my feelings about Vernon.

Larry Womble, Mazie Woodruf, and Vivian Burke on the other hand, have been there just about every year. Larry still plays a very integral part in keeping it alive. If you want good perspectives AlanH, get Larry Womble on here. He is definitely a man who speaks his mind and cares deeply for his community. He is one of the very few representatives who has his constituents in mind. That man has my ultimate respect.

Perhaps people have reasons to question charity work as it is presented in the secular world.
